Occasionally và Sometimes Là Gì?

Định Nghĩa

Sometimes và occasionally đều là trạng từ tần suất (adverbs of frequency), được sử dụng để diễn tả mức độ thường xuyên một hành động hoặc sự kiện xảy ra. Tuy nhiên, chúng có mức độ tần suất khác nhau trên thang đo từ 0% đến 100%.

Thang đo tần suất trong tiếng Anh:

• Always (100%)
• Usually/Normally (80-90%)
• Often/Frequently (60-70%)
• Sometimes (40-50%)
• Occasionally (20-30%)
• Rarely/Seldom (10%)

Chức năng chính:

• Sometimes: Diễn tả một hành động xảy ra với tần suất trung bình (khoảng 40-50% thời gian), tương đương “đôi khi, đôi lúc, thỉnh thoảng” trong tiếng Việt
• Occasionally: Diễn tả một hành động xảy ra ít thường xuyên hơn (khoảng 20-30% thời gian), nghĩa là “thỉnh thoảng, lâu lâu, không thường xuyên”
