- Ghi chú thông minh: Chỉ viết keywords, không viết câu đầy đủ (What, When, Where, Who, Why, How, Feelings)
- Nói đủ thời gian: Tối thiểu 1.5 phút, tốt nhất là 2-2.5 phút để thể hiện stamina
- Cover tất cả bullet points: Đừng bỏ sót bất kỳ yêu cầu nào
- Sử dụng thì phù hợp: Thường là quá khứ đơn khi kể về một sự kiện đã xảy ra

📝 Sample Answer – Band 6-7
Thời lượng: Khoảng 1.5-2 phút
“I’d like to talk about a water puppet show that I attended last year. It was a traditional Vietnamese performance that is quite famous in Hanoi.
I watched this performance in July 2023 at the Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre, which is located in the Old Quarter of Hanoi. I went there with my family when they visited me during the summer holidays. It was my parents’ first time seeing this kind of show, so they were very curious about it.
The performance was about one hour long and included many different stories from Vietnamese folklore and daily life. The puppets were controlled by people standing behind a screen in the water. The puppets looked very colorful and moved smoothly on the water surface. There was also live traditional music playing during the show, with instruments like drums and flutes.
What impressed me most was how the puppeteers could control the puppets so skillfully. The stories were quite entertaining and funny, especially the parts about dragon dances and farming activities. My parents really enjoyed it too, and they said it helped them understand more about Vietnamese culture. After the show, we took some photos with the puppets.
Overall, I felt quite happy and proud to show my family this traditional art form. It was a nice cultural experience, and I would definitely recommend it to other people who visit Hanoi.”

📝 Sample Answer – Band 7.5-8
Thời lượng: Khoảng 2-2.5 phút
“I’d like to share with you my experience of attending a captivating water puppet show that I was fortunate enough to witness last summer. For those unfamiliar with it, water puppetry is a quintessentially Vietnamese art form that dates back centuries.
This performance took place at the renowned Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre in Hanoi’s Old Quarter, specifically in July 2023. I attended it with my parents and younger sister during their visit to the capital. They’d been keen to experience authentic Vietnamese culture, and I thought this would be the perfect opportunity for them to do so.
The show itself was absolutely mesmerizing. It lasted approximately an hour and featured around ten different vignettes depicting various aspects of Vietnamese rural life and folklore. What made it particularly special was the sheer artistry involved – the puppeteers, who remained hidden behind a bamboo screen, manipulated these intricately carved wooden puppets in a pool of water with remarkable dexterity. The puppets appeared to glide effortlessly across the water surface, performing everything from dragon dances to farming scenes. The performance was accompanied by live traditional music featuring đàn tranh and đàn bầu, which created an enchanting atmosphere.
What struck me most was how this ancient art form brought history to life in such a vivid and engaging way. I found myself completely absorbed in the stories being told – particularly the legendary tale of the Golden Turtle and the Emperor. My parents were equally enthralled, and I could see the genuine amazement on their faces throughout the show.
Reflecting on it now, I felt an overwhelming sense of pride in my cultural heritage. It was incredibly gratifying to see my family appreciate and connect with this traditional art form. The experience also made me realize how important it is to preserve these cultural treasures for future generations. I left the theatre feeling both culturally enriched and deeply inspired to learn more about Vietnam’s artistic traditions.”

📝 Sample Answer – Band 8.5-9
Thời lượng: 2.5-3 phút đầy đủ
“I’d like to delve into my experience of attending an absolutely extraordinary water puppet performance that, to this day, remains one of my most profound cultural encounters. This particular art form represents a uniquely Vietnamese theatrical tradition that has been meticulously preserved and passed down through generations.
The performance took place last July at the prestigious Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre, nestled in the heart of Hanoi’s historic Old Quarter. I had the pleasure of attending with my family – my parents and younger sister – who were visiting from Ho Chi Minh City. They’d expressed a burning desire to immerse themselves in northern Vietnamese culture, and I’d been eagerly anticipating sharing this experience with them, knowing full well it would be something truly special.
What unfolded over the next hour can only be described as nothing short of magical. The performance comprised a masterfully curated selection of approximately ten vignettes, each one exquisitely depicting different facets of Vietnamese rural life and ancient folklore. The sheer ingenuity of the art form itself left me spellbound – these elaborately carved wooden puppets, some standing nearly a meter tall, were manipulated by highly skilled artisans who remained concealed behind a split-bamboo screen. The puppeteers controlled these figures using an intricate system of rods and strings submerged beneath the water’s surface, creating the illusion that the puppets were moving of their own accord. The choreography was breathtakingly precise, with puppets executing everything from elaborate dragon dances to meticulously detailed farming sequences that paid homage to Vietnam’s agricultural heritage.
The performance was further elevated by an ensemble of traditional musicians who provided a hauntingly beautiful live soundtrack featuring đàn tranh zithers and đàn bầu monochords. The music didn’t simply accompany the puppets – it breathed life into the narratives, creating an all-encompassing sensory experience that transported the entire audience back to a bygone era.
What resonated with me most profoundly was the legendary sequence depicting the tale of the Golden Turtle returning King Le Loi’s sword – a pivotal moment in Vietnamese history. The way the puppeteers captured the essence of this historical event through such a deceptively simple medium was truly awe-inspiring. I found myself completely transfixed, and glancing sideways at my parents, I could see they were equally captivated, their faces illuminated with wonder.
On a deeper level, this experience sparked within me a profound appreciation for the painstaking efforts required to keep such traditions alive in our rapidly modernizing world. I felt an overwhelming surge of pride – not just in witnessing this spectacular display of artistry, but in having the privilege of sharing it with my family. The experience served as a poignant reminder that these invaluable cultural treasures represent far more than mere entertainment; they are vital threads in the fabric of our national identity, embodying centuries of wisdom, creativity, and collective memory.
Leaving the theatre that evening, I felt simultaneously humbled and inspired – humbled by the dedication of the artisans who have devoted their lives to perfecting this craft, and inspired to become a better custodian of my own cultural heritage. It was, without a doubt, a truly transformative experience that has left an indelible mark on my understanding and appreciation of Vietnamese traditional arts.”

Các Câu Hỏi Thảo Luận Sâu
Theme 1: Cultural Preservation and Value
Question 1: Why is it important to preserve traditional art forms?
🎯 Phân tích câu hỏi:
- Dạng: Opinion – Why question (yêu cầu reasons/justification)
- Key words: important, preserve, traditional art forms
- Cách tiếp cận:
- Direct answer (It’s important because…)
- Reason 1: Cultural identity + example
- Reason 2: Educational value + example
- Possible Reason 3: Economic/tourism aspect
- Conclusion
📝 Sample Answer – Band 6-7:
“I think it’s very important to preserve traditional art forms because they represent our culture and history. If we don’t protect them, they might disappear and younger generations won’t know about them. For example, in Vietnam, water puppetry is a unique art form that shows our traditions. Also, these art forms can attract tourists and help the economy. So preserving them has many benefits for society.”
Phân tích:
- Structure: Có direct answer và 2 reasons cơ bản
- Vocabulary: Adequate nhưng simple (very important, represent, protect, unique)
“Well, I’d argue that preserving traditional art forms is absolutely crucial for several compelling reasons. First and foremost, these art forms serve as a living repository of our cultural heritage and collective memory. They embody centuries of wisdom, values, and aesthetic sensibilities that define who we are as a people. Take water puppetry in Vietnam, for instance – it’s not merely entertainment; it’s a tangible link to our agrarian past and encapsulates the creativity and resilience of our ancestors. Without active preservation efforts, we risk severing these connections to our roots, which could lead to a sort of cultural amnesia.
Beyond the cultural aspect, traditional arts also possess significant educational value. They provide younger generations with invaluable insights into how their ancestors lived, thought, and expressed themselves. This understanding fosters a sense of continuity and identity that’s increasingly vital in our globalized world where cultural boundaries are becoming blurred.
On a more practical level, preserved traditional arts can serve as a economic asset through cultural tourism, creating employment and breathing new life into communities that safeguard these traditions. That said, I think the preservation should be driven primarily by cultural value rather than commercial interests, as over-commercialization can sometimes dilute the authenticity of these art forms.”
Phân tích:
- Structure: Well-organized: Introduction → Reason 1 (cultural identity) with detailed example → Reason 2 (educational) → Reason 3 (economic) with qualification → Balanced conclusion
- Vocabulary: Sophisticated và precise: living repository, embody, encapsulates, severing connections, cultural amnesia, invaluable insights, fosters a sense of, breathing new life into, dilute the authenticity
- Grammar: Complex structures: participle clauses, relative clauses, conditional implications (without…we risk)
- Critical Thinking: Shows nuanced understanding by acknowledging economic benefits but cautioning about over-commercialization

Question 2: How can governments encourage young people to appreciate traditional culture?
🎯 Phân tích câu hỏi:
- Dạng: Problem-Solution / Suggestion
- Key words: governments, encourage, young people, appreciate, traditional culture
- Cách tiếp cận: Đưa ra 2-3 practical measures với explanation và examples
📝 Sample Answer – Band 6-7:
“Governments can do several things to encourage young people to appreciate traditional culture. First, they can include more cultural education in schools, like teaching about traditional music or art. Second, they can organize cultural festivals and events that are interesting for young people, maybe combining traditional and modern elements. They can also use social media to promote traditional culture in a way that young people like. For example, the government can create interesting videos about traditional arts and share them online.”
Phân tích:
- Structure: Lists 3 measures với brief explanation
- Vocabulary: Basic (do several things, include more, interesting, promote)
- Ideas: Practical nhưng chưa deeply analyzed
- Tại sao Band 6-7: Adequate suggestions nhưng lacks sophisticated expression và in-depth elaboration
📝 Câu trả lời mẫu – Band 8-9:
“This is quite a complex challenge, but I believe there are several strategic approaches governments could adopt. Perhaps the most effective strategy would be to integrate traditional culture into the education system in a more engaging and interactive manner. Rather than just passively learning about traditions in textbooks, students could actively participate in workshops where they learn traditional crafts, music, or dance. Vietnam has already taken steps in this direction with programs that bring master artisans into schools, which has proven quite successful in sparking genuine interest.
Another crucial avenue would be leveraging digital platforms that young people already use. Governments could collaborate with content creators and influencers to produce compelling digital content that showcases traditional arts in contemporary contexts. For instance, short-form videos featuring traditional performances with modern interpretations could go viral on platforms like TikTok or Instagram, reaching millions of young viewers who might otherwise never encounter these art forms.
Additionally, governments might consider offering financial incentives – such as subsidized tickets for young people to attend cultural performances, or grants for youth-led cultural initiatives. This lowers the barriers to entry and makes traditional culture more accessible.
However, I think it’s important to note that any such efforts must strike a delicate balance between preservation and innovation. Young people are more likely to engage with traditions that feel relevant to their lives rather than something perceived as outdated or disconnected from their reality.”

Theme 2: Modern vs Traditional Performances
Question 3: How have performances changed over the years?
🎯 Phân tích câu hỏi:
- Dạng: Compare (Past vs Present)
- Key words: performances, changed, over the years
- Cách tiếp cận:
- Acknowledge changes have occurred
- Identify 2-3 major changes (technology, content, audience, accessibility)
- Give specific examples for each
- Optional: evaluate whether changes are positive/negative
📝 Sample Answer – Band 6-7:
“Performances have changed a lot in recent years. In the past, performances were mostly traditional and people had to go to theatres to watch them. Now, technology has made performances more modern. For example, many shows use special effects, lights, and sounds that weren’t available before. Also, people can watch performances online now, so they don’t need to go to the theatre. The content has also changed – modern performances often mix traditional and contemporary styles to attract younger audiences.”
Phân tích:
- Structure: Có comparison giữa past và present
- Vocabulary: Basic comparison language (in the past, now, before)
- Ideas: Covers main changes (technology, accessibility, content) nhưng surface-level
- Tại sao Band 6-7: Adequate comparison nhưng lacks depth, specificity và sophisticated language
📝 Câu trả lời mẫu – Band 8-9:
“Well, performances have undergone quite dramatic transformations over the past few decades, largely driven by technological advancement and evolving audience expectations.
Perhaps the most obvious change relates to production values. Traditional performances relied heavily on live music, simple props, and the raw talent of performers. Today’s productions, by contrast, often incorporate sophisticated lighting systems, projection mapping, and even augmented reality elements that can create immersive experiences that would have been unimaginable just a generation ago. Take Cirque du Soleil, for example – they’ve revolutionized circus performances by seamlessly blending acrobatics with cutting-edge technology and theatrical storytelling.
Another significant shift concerns accessibility and distribution. Historically, performances were ephemeral events – you had to be physically present at a specific time and place. The digital revolution has fundamentally altered this dynamic. Now, performances can be live-streamed globally, archived and viewed on-demand, and even experienced virtually through VR technology. This has democratized access to cultural performances, though some might argue it’s also diminished the magic of live attendance.
In terms of content, there’s been a noticeable trend toward fusion and innovation. Contemporary performers are increasingly drawing from multiple cultural traditions and blending genres that were once considered distinct. This cross-pollination can yield incredibly creative results, though purists sometimes lament the dilution of traditional forms.
All things considered, while these changes have made performances more technically impressive and widely accessible, I think we need to be mindful not to lose sight of the fundamental human element – that intimate connection between performer and audience that lies at the heart of any truly memorable performance.”
Phân tích:

- Key words: traditional performances, disappear, future
- Cách tiếp cận:
- State your position (likely will not completely disappear but…)
- Acknowledge challenges/threats
- Identify factors supporting survival
- Qualified conclusion
📝 Sample Answer – Band 6-7:
“I don’t think traditional performances will completely disappear, but they might become less popular. There are some challenges, like young people preferring modern entertainment and fewer people learning traditional arts. However, I think some traditional performances will survive because governments and cultural organizations are trying to protect them. Also, some people still appreciate traditional culture and want to keep it alive. Tourism also helps because many tourists want to see traditional performances. So I think traditional performances will continue, but maybe in smaller numbers.”
Phân tích:
- Structure: Clear position, mentions challenges và supporting factors
- Vocabulary: Basic (completely disappear, become less popular, trying to protect)
- Ideas: Covers main points but lacks nuance
- Tại sao Band 6-7: Logical answer nhưng lacks sophisticated analysis và language
📝 Câu trả lời mẫu – Band 8-9:
“I’d say it’s highly unlikely that traditional performances will vanish entirely, though they may well undergo significant transformations. Let me explain what I mean.
On the one hand, traditional performances certainly face considerable challenges in the modern era. The pace of contemporary life, coupled with the ubiquity of digital entertainment, means that younger generations often have limited exposure to and less patience for traditional art forms that can seem slow-paced or arcane compared to the instant gratification offered by modern media. Added to this, the arduous training required to master traditional arts means fewer young people are pursuing these disciplines as careers, creating a potential succession crisis.
That said, I’m cautiously optimistic about their survival for several reasons. First of all, there’s been a global resurgence of interest in authentic cultural experiences, particularly among millennials and Gen Z who are seeking alternatives to mass-produced entertainment. This manifests in the growing popularity of cultural tourism and artisanal movements. Moreover, the very threat of extinction often galvanizes preservation efforts. We’re seeing unprecedented levels of government support, UNESCO recognition programs, and grassroots initiatives aimed at safeguarding intangible cultural heritage.
Perhaps most encouragingly, many traditional performance groups are finding innovative ways to remain relevant without compromising their essence. They’re adapting presentation styles to suit modern audiences, incorporating contemporary elements, and leveraging technology for promotion and education while maintaining the core artistic traditions.
In my view, the key to survival lies in striking that delicate balance between preservation and evolution. Traditional performances that can adapt to changing contexts while staying true to their fundamental principles are likely to not only survive but thrive. Those that remain rigid and insular, however, may indeed fade into obscurity.”
Phân tích:

Theme 3: Cultural Exchange and Global Influence
Question 5: How can cultural performances promote international understanding?
🎯 Phân tích câu hỏi:
- Dạng: How question – explaining mechanisms/processes
- Key words: cultural performances, promote, international understanding
- Cách tiếp cận:
- Acknowledge the role of cultural performances
- Explain 2-3 specific mechanisms
- Give examples
- Possible conclusion about limitations or additional factors
📝 Sample Answer – Band 6-7:
“Cultural performances can help people from different countries understand each other better. When people watch performances from other cultures, they can learn about different traditions and ways of life. This helps reduce misunderstandings and stereotypes. For example, if someone watches a traditional Vietnamese water puppet show, they can understand more about Vietnamese culture and history. Cultural performances also bring people together and create opportunities for cultural exchange. International festivals are good examples where people can experience many different cultures.”
Phân tích:
- Structure: States role và gives reasons với một example
- Vocabulary: Basic (help people, understand better, learn about, bring together)
- Ideas: Covers main concept nhưng lacks depth
- Tại sao Band 6-7: Adequate response with relevant ideas nhưng lacks sophisticated analysis
📝 Câu trả lời mẫu – Band 8-9:
“Cultural performances can serve as powerful catalysts for international understanding through several key mechanisms.
Most fundamentally, they offer a window into the worldview, values, and historical experiences of different societies in a way that’s far more visceral and emotionally engaging than mere textbook knowledge. When audiences witness a traditional Japanese Noh drama or a Vietnamese water puppet show, they’re not just passively observing artistic techniques – they’re gaining insights into how these cultures perceive concepts like honor, family, or the relationship between humans and nature. This experiential learning tends to foster empathy in ways that abstract information simply cannot.
Beyond this, cultural performances transcend language barriers. Music, dance, and visual storytelling communicate on a universal human level, making them particularly effective at creating emotional connections between people who might otherwise struggle to relate to one another. I witnessed this firsthand at an international arts festival where audiences from vastly different backgrounds were equally moved by a Kenyan tribal dance performance, despite understanding none of the spoken elements.
Another crucial aspect is that these performances challenge stereotypes and dismantle misconceptions. They present nuanced, authentic representations of cultures that counteract the oversimplified narratives often perpetuated by mainstream media. This is particularly important in combating cultural prejudice and fostering mutual respect.
That said, I think we should be careful not to overstate the impact. Cultural performances can plant seeds of understanding, but genuine cross-cultural comprehension requires sustained engagement and meaningful dialogue beyond just aesthetic appreciation. They’re a valuable starting point rather than a complete solution.”
Phân tích:
- Structure: Introduction → Mechanism 1 (window into worldview) with explanation → Mechanism 2 (transcend language) with personal example → Mechanism 3 (challenge stereotypes) → Important qualification about limitations
- Vocabulary: Highly sophisticated: serve as catalysts, visceral, experiential learning, foster empathy, transcend barriers, vastly different backgrounds, dismantle misconceptions, nuanced representations, counteract, oversimplified narratives, perpetuated by, combating prejudice, sustained engagement

Question 6: Should governments invest more in promoting cultural performances abroad?
🎯 Phân tích câu hỏi:
- Dạng: Opinion – Should question (agree/disagree with justification)
- Key words: governments, invest more, promoting, cultural performances, abroad
- Cách tiếp cận:
- Clear position (Yes with conditions, or Yes but…)
- Reasons supporting investment
- Potential concerns or conditions
- Balanced conclusion
📝 Sample Answer – Band 6-7:
“Yes, I think governments should invest more in promoting cultural performances abroad. This can help other countries learn about their culture and can improve international relationships. Cultural performances are also good for a country’s image and can attract tourists. For example, when Vietnam promotes water puppetry internationally, more people become interested in visiting Vietnam. However, governments should balance this with other priorities and not spend too much money on it. They should also make sure the performances are high quality to make a good impression.”
Phân tích:
- Structure: Clear position với reasons và một qualification
- Vocabulary: Adequate (invest more, improve, good for, attract, balance)
- Ideas: Relevant points nhưng somewhat predictable
- Tại sao Band 6-7: Answers the question appropriately nhưng lacks sophisticated argumentation
📝 Câu trả lời mẫu – Band 8-9:
“I would strongly advocate for increased government investment in promoting cultural performances abroad, though with some important caveats.
From a diplomatic standpoint, cultural performances represent what’s often called ‘soft power’ – the ability to exert influence and shape perceptions through cultural appeal rather than coercive force or economic pressure. Countries like South Korea have masterfully leveraged their cultural exports, including traditional performances, to enhance their global standing and forge deeper connections with other nations. This kind of cultural diplomacy can lay the groundwork for stronger political and economic relationships in ways that formal diplomacy alone cannot achieve.
Economically speaking, such investments can yield significant returns. Successful cultural promotion abroad generates interest in tourism, creates markets for cultural products, and positions the country as a culturally rich destination. Vietnam’s promotion of traditional arts internationally has undoubtedly contributed to the surge in cultural tourism we’ve seen in recent years.
Moreover, in an era of increasing globalization, there’s a legitimate concern about cultural homogenization. Government investment in promoting diverse cultural performances helps preserve the world’s cultural diversity and ensures that smaller or less commercially viable art forms don’t get drowned out by mainstream global entertainment.
That being said, I think such investments should be strategic rather than indiscriminate. Governments need to ensure they’re not neglecting domestic cultural infrastructure in favor of international promotion. There’s little point in promoting performances abroad if the art forms are dying out at home. Additionally, promotion efforts should maintain artistic integrity and avoid reducing complex cultural traditions to superficial spectacles designed merely to please foreign audiences.
In essence, yes, governments should invest more, but with clear objectives, quality standards, and a commitment to authenticity and sustainable cultural development both at home and abroad.”
Phân tích:
- Structure: Clear position with caveats → Reason 1 (soft power) with example → Reason 2 (economic) → Reason 3 (cultural diversity) → Important qualifications → Nuanced conclusion
- Vocabulary: Exceptional: strongly advocate for, important caveats, soft power, exert influence, coercive force, masterfully leveraged, forge deeper connections, lay the groundwork, yield significant returns, undoubtedly contributed to, cultural homogenization, less commercially viable, get drowned out by, strategic rather than indiscriminate, maintain artistic integrity, superficial spectacles
