Với phrasal verbs, “immediately” đứng sau cả cụm: “She looked up the information immediately.” (KHÔNG phải “looked immediately up”)

Giải thích:
“At once” có hai nghĩa:

“Immediately” (ngay lập tức) – phổ biến trong IELTS
“At the same time” (cùng một lúc) – cần động từ thể hiện hành động đồng thời

Trong câu sai, chỉ liệt kê danh sách không thể hiện việc làm đồng thời. Cần động từ như “work”, “juggle”, “manage” để “at once” có nghĩa.

Thay thế các lần khác bằng: without delay, promptly, right away, instantly
Cấu trúc câu khác như: Upon + V-ing, As soon as

Lưu ý về Lexical Resource (Band 7-9):
Examiner đánh giá “flexibility and precision” – sử dụng đa dạng từ vựng thể hiện cùng một ý. Lặp lại “immediately” 3-4 lần trong một câu ngắn sẽ bị trừ điểm.

Giải thích:

Giải thích:
Stative verbs (know, understand, realize, recognize) diễn tả trạng thái không kéo dài, nên việc dùng “immediately” có thể dư thừa. Tuy nhiên:

Với “realize” (nhận ra qua suy nghĩ): “immediately” phù hợp
Với “know” (biết ngay): “at once” hoặc cấu trúc khác tự nhiên hơn

Đừng overuse: Nhiều học viên sau khi học được “immediately” và “at once” lại dùng quá nhiều, làm bài viết không tự nhiên. Hãy nhớ: Quality over quantity. Một câu sử dụng đúng ngữ cảnh, đúng vị trí, kết hợp với cấu trúc phức tạp sẽ impress examiner hơn là 5 câu lặp đi lặp lại.

Context is key: “Immediately” và “at once” chỉ có impact khi context thực sự yêu cầu urgency hoặc immediate action. Đừng force vào những topic không phù hợp như “hobbies” hay “favorite food”.

Vary your vocabulary: Band 8-9 đòi hỏi flexibility. Sau khi dùng “immediately”, lần sau hãy thử: without delay, right away, promptly, instantly, forthwith (formal). Điều này cho thấy lexical resource đa dạng.

Pay attention to formality: Speaking Part 1 dùng “right away” OK, nhưng Writing Task 2 nên dùng “immediately”. Speaking Part 3 và Writing đều formal nên prefer “immediately” và “at once”.

Combine with other advanced structures: “Immediately” và “at once” trở nên powerful khi kết hợp với:

Inversion: “Not only must governments act immediately…”
Passive voice: “The policy was immediately implemented…”
