Giải thích:

Với modal verbs (will, would, can, could, should, must, may, might), certainly phải đứng GIỮA modal verb và động từ chính, không được đứng trước modal verb. Đây là lỗi cực kỳ phổ biến của học viên Việt Nam do suy nghĩ theo tiếng Việt “chắc chắn sẽ” → “certainly will”.

Quy tắc nhớ: Modal + Certainly + Verb (Will certainly change, Can certainly improve, Should certainly consider)

Giải thích:

“Have certainty that…” là cấu trúc không tự nhiên trong tiếng Anh. Nên dùng “be certain that…” hoặc nếu muốn dùng danh từ certainty, cần dùng giới từ “about” + noun phrase, không dùng “that-clause” trực tiếp sau “have certainty”.

Cấu trúc đúng với certainty:

• There is certainty that…
• With certainty, we can say…
• The certainty of + noun
• Have no certainty about + noun (NOT that-clause)

Lưu ý:

Học viên Việt Nam thường dùng “have certainty” vì trong tiếng Việt nói “có sự chắc chắn”, nhưng trong tiếng Anh, ta dùng “be certain” hoặc các cấu trúc khác với danh từ “certainty”.

Lặp lại “certainly” nhiều lần trong một đoạn văn làm giảm điểm Lexical Resource. Band 7+ cần thể hiện range of vocabulary bằng cách sử dụng synonyms và varied expressions.

✅ ĐÚNG:

Giải thích:

“Absolute certainty” là mức độ chắc chắn tuyệt đối, chỉ nên dùng khi có evidence mạnh mẽ (scientific facts, statistics). Với opinions hoặc statements mang tính chủ quan, việc dùng “absolute certainty” sẽ bị xem là overstatement và thiếu critical thinking.

Band 8-9 candidates biết:

• Dùng strong certainty cho facts có evidence: “Scientists can state with certainty that…”
• Dùng moderate certainty cho opinions: “I’m fairly certain that…”, “There is growing certainty that…”
• Thừa nhận limitations: “While we cannot claim complete certainty…”

Ví dụ balanced approach:

Lỗi 5: Dùng Certainly Trong Câu Phủ Định Không Chuẩn

Giải thích:

Trong câu phủ định formal (IELTS Writing), nên dùng “does not” thay vì “doesn’t”. Hơn nữa, khi muốn diễn đạt ý phủ định với “mean”, cấu trúc “does not necessarily mean” (không nhất thiết có nghĩa là) tự nhiên và academic hơn “certainly doesn’t mean”.
