IELTS Speaking Part 1: Introduction and Interview

I prefer watching movies at home because it’s more convenient and cheaper. I can watch anytime I want and I don’t need to travel to the cinema. Also, I can pause the movie if I need to do something.

📝 Sample Answer – Band 8-9:
It really depends on the type of film, to be honest. For big-budget blockbusters or films with stunning visual effects, I definitely prefer the cinematic experience – there’s nothing quite like the immersive sound system and massive screen that really does justice to the director’s vision. However, for more intimate character-driven stories, I’m perfectly happy streaming from the comfort of my couch. The convenience factor is huge too – being able to pause for bathroom breaks or rewind a scene I particularly enjoyed is a luxury you don’t get at the cinema. So I’d say it’s horses for courses.
Phân tích:
- Điểm mạnh: Vocabulary advanced “big-budget blockbusters”, “stunning visual effects”, “cinematic experience”, “immersive sound system”, “does justice to”, “intimate character-driven stories”, “streaming from the comfort of”, “horses for courses”. IELTS Speaking Part 2: Long Turn (Cue Card)
Cue Card
Describe A Famous Actor Or Actress In Your Country
You should say:
- Who this person is
- What he/she looks like
- What kind of movies he/she appears in
- And explain why he/she is famous
📝 Sample Answer – Band 6-7
Thời lượng: Khoảng 1.5-2 phút
Well, I’d like to talk about Tran Thanh, who is one of the most famous actors in Vietnam. He’s probably in his late thirties and has been in the entertainment industry for many years now.
In terms of appearance, he’s quite average height for Vietnamese men and has a friendly face. He often wears fashionable clothes and has a modern hairstyle. He looks younger than his actual age.
Tran Thanh appears in many different kinds of movies, but he’s most famous for comedy films. He acts in romantic comedies that are very popular with young Vietnamese audiences. Recently, he has also tried some more serious roles in dramatic films. Besides acting, he’s also a well-known TV host and comedian.
The reason why he’s so famous is that he’s very talented and funny. Vietnamese people really enjoy his sense of humor. He’s also famous because he appears on TV a lot, not just in movies but also in game shows and talk shows. He has won many awards for his acting. Another reason is that he’s very active on social media and shares a lot about his personal life, which makes fans feel close to him. His movies are usually very successful at the box office.
So that’s why I think Tran Thanh is a famous actor in Vietnam.

📝 Sample Answer – Band 7.5-8
Thời lượng: Khoảng 2-2.5 phút
I’d like to talk about Ngo Thanh Van, who’s widely regarded as one of Vietnam’s most iconic actresses and action stars. She’s been a prominent figure in Vietnamese cinema for over two decades now, and interestingly, she’s also ventured into film production and directing in recent years.
When it comes to her appearance, Van has quite a distinctive look – she’s petite but athletic, standing at around 160 centimeters, with striking features that photograph beautifully on camera. What really stands out about her is her intense gaze and commanding presence, even though she’s not particularly tall. She maintains an impressively toned physique, which is essential for the physically demanding roles she often takes on. Her style is quite versatile – she can pull off both elegant red-carpet looks and tough action-hero personas equally well.
In terms of her filmography, Van is particularly known for action-packed martial arts films. Her breakout role was in “The Rebel,” a period action film set during French colonial times, where she performed most of her own stunts. She’s also appeared in several Vietnamese remakes of Korean films and has taken on roles in romantic dramas. More recently, she’s been involved in big-budget productions like the Vietnamese adaptation of “Hai Phuong,” which actually got picked up by Netflix and gained international attention.
What makes her genuinely famous, in my opinion, is her pioneering spirit in an industry that traditionally didn’t feature many female action stars. She basically broke the mold and proved that Vietnamese actresses could carry action films just as well as their male counterparts. Beyond her acting abilities, she’s respected for being fiercely professional and dedicated to promoting Vietnamese cinema on the global stage. She’s also a savvy businesswoman, having founded her own production company. Vietnamese audiences admire her not just for her talent but also for her determination to challenge gender stereotypes in the film industry. The fact that she’s managed to maintain relevance for so long in such a competitive field really speaks to her adaptability and star power.

📝 Sample Answer – Band 8.5-9
Thời lượng: 2.5-3 phút đầy đủ
I’d like to talk about Tran Anh Hung, who might not be a household name for younger Vietnamese audiences, but he’s arguably one of the most internationally acclaimed Vietnamese filmmakers and actors of his generation. Actually, calling him just an actor would be selling him short – he’s primarily known as a visionary director who’s put Vietnamese cinema on the world map.
In terms of appearance, Hung has quite an unassuming presence – he’s in his early sixties now, with greying hair that gives him a distinguished, intellectual air. He typically dresses quite conservatively in muted tones, which I think reflects his artistic sensibility rather than seeking any kind of flashy celebrity status. There’s something quite understated yet refined about his demeanor – he exudes the quiet confidence of someone who’s secure in their artistic achievements.
His body of work is predominantly art-house cinema rather than commercial blockbusters. He’s best known for his visually stunning period dramas like “The Scent of Green Papaya” and “Cyclo,” which have this incredibly poetic, almost dreamlike quality to them. What sets his films apart is his meticulous attention to visual aesthetics – every frame is composed like a painting. While he occasionally acts in his own films, his real genius lies in crafting these immersive sensory experiences that capture Vietnamese culture in ways that transcend language barriers. More recently, he’s actually been working on French productions, which shows how his artistic vision has universal appeal.
What makes him genuinely remarkable – and this is why I chose to talk about him – is that he achieved something that very few Vietnamese artists have managed: international recognition at the highest level. “The Scent of Green Papaya” was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film back in 1993, which was absolutely groundbreaking for Vietnamese cinema. He’s essentially paved the way for subsequent generations of Vietnamese filmmakers to gain credibility on the global stage.
But beyond the accolades, what I find most impressive is his uncompromising artistic integrity. In an industry that often prioritizes commercial viability over artistic merit, Hung has consistently chosen to stay true to his vision, creating films that are deliberately paced and contemplative rather than following mainstream formulas. His work challenges audiences to slow down and immerse themselves in the visual storytelling, which is quite countercultural in today’s age of instant gratification.
Moreover, he’s been instrumental in shaping how Vietnamese culture is perceived internationally. His films offer this nuanced, humanistic portrayal of Vietnamese life that defies stereotypes, particularly Western misconceptions stemming from war narratives. He’s shown that Vietnamese stories can be told with sophistication and artistry that resonates with global audiences, and in doing so, he’s elevated the entire profile of Vietnamese cinema. For these reasons, I consider him not just famous, but truly influential in ways that transcend mere celebrity.

Có self-correction tự nhiên “Actually, calling him just an actor would be selling him short” thể hiện native-like fluency.
📚 Vocabulary Tinh Vi:
Đây là cách diễn đạt idiomatic tự nhiên thay vì nói đơn giản “not enough to describe him”
Ví dụ: “exudes the quiet confidence” – động từ “exude” (tỏa ra, thể hiện) kết hợp với “quiet confidence” tạo ra collocation tinh tế, thay vì “shows confidence” đơn điệu
Ví dụ: “transcend language barriers” – sử dụng động từ “transcend” (vượt qua, siêu việt) thể hiện mức độ vocabulary cao, thay vì “go beyond” thông thường
📝 Grammar Đa Dạng:
Ví dụ: “What makes him genuinely remarkable – and this is why I chose to talk about him – is that he achieved…”
Ví dụ: “His films offer this nuanced, humanistic portrayal of Vietnamese life that defies stereotypes” – Complex noun phrase với multiple modifiers và relative clause, cho thấy grammatical range ấn tượng
💡 Ideas Sâu Sắc:
Thay vì chỉ nói “he’s famous because he won awards”, bài nói phân tích deeper dimensions: artistic integrity trong industry thương mại hóa, vai trò trong việc reshape international perceptions về Vietnamese culture, influence đến thế hệ filmmakers sau. Đây là level of analysis mà examiner tìm kiếm ở band 9.
Follow-up Questions (Rounding Off Questions)
Question 1: Do you think this person will remain famous in the future?
Band 6-7 Answer:
Yes, I think so. He is very talented and people like his movies, so he will probably stay famous for a long time.
Band 8-9 Answer:
I’d say his legacy is pretty much secured at this point. Even if he were to retire from filmmaking tomorrow, his body of work has already left an indelible mark on Vietnamese cinema. He’s the kind of artist whose influence will be studied and referenced for decades to come, much like seminal figures in other national cinemas. So yes, his fame is likely to endure rather than fade with changing trends.
Question 2: Would you like to meet this person someday?
Band 6-7 Answer:
Yes, definitely! It would be very interesting to meet him and talk about his movies. I would ask him about his acting experiences.
Band 8-9 Answer:
Absolutely! Though I imagine it would be quite intimidating to meet someone of his artistic caliber. I’d be fascinated to hear him elaborate on his creative process and how he conceptualizes those stunning visual compositions. More than anything, I’d love to understand his perspective on how Vietnamese cinema can continue to evolve while maintaining its cultural authenticity. That would be an incredibly enriching conversation.

IELTS Speaking Part 3: Two-way Discussion
Theme 1: The Influence of Famous People
Question 1: Why do you think some actors become famous while others don’t?
🎯 Phân tích câu hỏi:
- Dạng: Cause analysis – phân tích nguyên nhân
- Key words: “some…while others” – yêu cầu so sánh contrast
- Cách tiếp cận: Đưa ra multiple factors (talent, luck, marketing, timing), so sánh và đưa examples
📝 Sample Answer – Band 6-7:
I think there are several reasons. First, some actors are very talented and can act very well in different roles. Second, they might be lucky and get good opportunities. Also, they might have good connections in the entertainment industry. Some actors also work very hard and are professional. Marketing is important too – if they are promoted well, more people will know them.
- Vocabulary: Basic level với “very talented”, “act very well”, “good opportunities”, “work very hard”
📝 Sample Answer – Band 8-9:
Well, I’d say it’s a complex interplay of multiple factors rather than just one thing. Obviously, raw talent and acting prowess are fundamental – you need to be able to convincingly embody different characters and evoke genuine emotions in audiences. However, talent alone isn’t enough. Timing plays a crucial role – being in the right place at the right time, landing that breakthrough role that resonates with audiences.
There’s also the element of strategic career management. Successful actors often have astute agents who position them strategically for roles that will enhance their visibility and showcase their range. Marketing and public relations are increasingly important too – in today’s social media age, cultivating a strong personal brand and maintaining public engagement can be just as important as on-screen performance.
That said, I think there’s an undeniable element of luck involved. The industry is notoriously competitive and somewhat arbitrary – someone might have all the talent in the world but simply never get that pivotal opportunity that catapults them to stardom. Conversely, some actors achieve fame somewhat disproportionate to their abilities because they happened to be cast in a cultural phenomenon at the right moment. So it’s really a constellation of factors – talent, strategy, timing, and yes, a bit of serendipity.
Phân tích:
- Structure: Highly organized – Direct answer → Factor 1 (talent) với qualification → Factor 2 (timing) → Factor 3 (management/marketing) → Acknowledging luck → Balanced conclusion
- Vocabulary: Sophisticated và precise “complex interplay”, “raw talent”, “acting prowess”, “convincingly embody”, “evoke genuine emotions”, “landing that breakthrough role”, “astute agents”, “position strategically”, “enhance visibility”, “cultivating a strong personal brand”, “notoriously competitive”, “pivotal opportunity”, “catapults to stardom”, “disproportionate to their abilities”, “constellation of factors”, “serendipity”
- Grammar: Complex conditionals implied, passive constructions, relative clauses, gerunds as subjects
- Critical Thinking: Shows sophisticated understanding bằng cách acknowledge multiple dimensions, recognize the role of luck vs merit, avoid oversimplification
💡 Key Language Features:
- Discourse markers: “Well”, “Obviously”, “However”, “That said”, “Conversely”, “So”
- Tentative language: “I’d say”, “I think”, “somewhat”, “a bit of” – shows academic caution
- Abstract nouns: “interplay”, “prowess”, “timing”, “visibility”, “phenomenon”, “serendipity”
- Collocations: “raw talent”, “acting prowess”, “breakthrough role”, “strategic career management”, “astute agents”, “personal brand”, “notoriously competitive”
Question 2: Do you think celebrities have a responsibility to be good role models?
🎯 Phân tích câu hỏi:
- Dạng: Opinion với ethical dimension
- Key words: “responsibility”, “good role models” – concepts about obligation và moral influence
- Cách tiếp cận: Present both sides → Give personal stance → Explain reasoning với examples
📝 Sample Answer – Band 6-7:
Yes, I think so. Because many young people look up to celebrities and want to copy them. If celebrities behave badly, it can influence young people in a negative way. So celebrities should be careful about their actions and try to set good examples. However, I also think celebrities are just normal people and they can make mistakes too.
Phân tích:
- Structure: Simple opinion → reason → acknowledgment of counter-argument
- Vocabulary: Basic “look up to”, “copy them”, “behave badly”, “negative way”, “set good examples”, “make mistakes”
- Tại sao Band 6-7: Gets the point across nhưng lacks sophistication và doesn’t fully develop the ethical complexity
📝 Sample Answer – Band 8-9:
This is quite a contentious issue, actually. I can see both sides of the argument. On the one hand, celebrities – whether they like it or not – wield considerable influence, particularly over young, impressionable audiences. When someone commands that level of public attention, there’s arguably an implicit social responsibility that comes with the territory. Their actions can shape societal norms and values, so there’s a case to be made that they should exercise some degree of self-awareness about the example they’re setting.
However, I’m somewhat ambivalent about placing that burden entirely on celebrities. They’re fundamentally just people who happen to be in the public eye – they didn’t necessarily sign up to be moral paragons when they chose their profession. To hold them to impossibly high standards seems rather unrealistic and somewhat unfair. Moreover, I’d argue that the onus should really be on parents and educators to cultivate critical thinking in young people, rather than relying on celebrities to model appropriate behavior.
That said, I do think there’s a middle ground here. While celebrities shouldn’t be expected to live spotless lives, they could perhaps be more mindful of their platform and its potential impact. Using their visibility to promote positive causes or at least avoiding egregiously harmful behavior seems like a reasonable compromise. But ultimately, I believe we as a society need to move away from this culture of celebrity worship and encourage more nuanced role models closer to home.

Theme 2: The Entertainment Industry
Question 3: How has the film industry changed in your country over the past few decades?
🎯 Phân tích câu hỏi:
- Dạng: Compare past and present – change over time
- Key words: “changed”, “past few decades” – yêu cầu historical perspective
- Cách tiếp cận: Identify key changes (technology, content, distribution, audience) → Give specific examples → Assess impact
📝 Sample Answer – Band 6-7:
The film industry in Vietnam has changed a lot. In the past, there were not many Vietnamese movies and the quality was not very good. Now, there are more movies with better quality and special effects. Also, now people can watch movies on the internet and not just in cinemas. Young directors are making more interesting films. The topics of movies are also more diverse now.
Phân tích:
- Structure: Past description → Present description với some comparisons
- Vocabulary: Simple “changed a lot”, “not many”, “better quality”, “special effects”, “more interesting”, “more diverse”
📝 Sample Answer – Band 8-9:
Oh, it’s undergone quite a dramatic transformation, I’d say. If we cast our minds back to the 1980s and 90s, the Vietnamese film industry was quite heavily state-controlled and largely propaganda-oriented, producing films that were often more educational than entertaining. Production values were understandably limited given the economic constraints of the time.
Fast forward to today, and it’s almost unrecognizable. We’ve seen a massive influx of private investment which has revolutionized production quality. Contemporary Vietnamese films now feature sophisticated cinematography, professional-grade special effects, and compelling narratives that can compete on an international level. Films like “Furie” and “The Third Wife” have actually garnered international acclaim and secured distribution deals with major platforms like Netflix.
Content-wise, there’s been a significant shift toward more diverse storytelling. Whereas previously films tended to focus on war narratives or didactic social messages, now we’re seeing everything from psychological thrillers to romantic comedies to socially conscious dramas that tackle contemporary issues like urban migration or generational divides. Directors have much more creative freedom to explore nuanced themes.
Perhaps most significantly, the entire distribution model has been disrupted. The rise of streaming platforms and digital distribution has democratized access – you no longer need theatrical release to reach audiences. This has lowered barriers to entry for independent filmmakers and created more diverse voices in the industry. It’s quite an exciting time for Vietnamese cinema, though challenges like piracy and competition from foreign blockbusters remain.
Phân tích:
- Structure: Past situation với context → Present situation với specific changes → Content evolution → Distribution changes → Assessment với acknowledge ongoing challenges
- Vocabulary: Sophisticated “undergone dramatic transformation”, “cast our minds back”, “heavily state-controlled”, “propaganda-oriented”, “production values”, “economic constraints”, “massive influx”, “revolutionized”, “sophisticated cinematography”, “professional-grade”, “garnered international acclaim”, “secured distribution deals”, “diverse storytelling”, “didactic social messages”, “socially conscious dramas”, “tackle contemporary issues”, “generational divides”, “creative freedom”, “entire distribution model has been disrupted”, “democratized access”, “lowered barriers to entry”, “independent filmmakers”
- Grammar: Complex time references, passive constructions, relative clauses, comparative structures
- Critical Thinking: Historical perspective → technological changes → content evolution → business model disruption → balanced view of progress and challenges
💡 Key Language Features:
- Time markers: “If we cast our minds back”, “Fast forward to today”, “Whereas previously”, “now”
- Cause-effect language: “given the economic constraints”, “This has lowered barriers”
- Contrast markers: “Whereas previously…now”, “though challenges remain”
Question 4: Do you think international movies have a positive or negative effect on local film industries?
🎯 Phân tích câu hỏi:
- Dạng: Opinion về positive/negative effects – requires balanced analysis
- Key words: “international movies”, “local film industries”, “effect”
- Cách tiếp cận: Acknowledge both positive and negative → Give examples for each → Personal stance with reasoning
📝 Sample Answer – Band 6-7:
I think it has both positive and negative effects. On the positive side, international movies can teach local filmmakers new techniques and styles. People can learn from Hollywood movies about special effects and storytelling. However, the negative effect is that international movies, especially Hollywood films, are very popular and this makes it difficult for local movies to compete. Many people prefer to watch foreign films rather than local ones. This can hurt the local film industry because they don’t make as much money.
Phân tích:
- Structure: State both sides → explain positive → explain negative
- Vocabulary: Adequate “new techniques”, “special effects”, “storytelling”, “difficult to compete”, “prefer to watch”, “hurt the local film industry”
📝 Sample Answer – Band 8-9:
I’d say it’s very much a double-edged sword. On one hand, exposure to international cinema can be tremendously beneficial for local industries. It raises the bar in terms of production standards and storytelling techniques. Local filmmakers can learn from and be inspired by international best practices – everything from cinematography to narrative structure to marketing strategies. There’s also a knowledge transfer that happens when international productions film on location and employ local crews, which builds technical capacity.
Moreover, the presence of international films can actually expand the overall movie-going market. When Hollywood blockbusters draw people to cinemas, some of that increased footfall can benefit local productions as well – it’s not necessarily a zero-sum game. Competition can be healthy, pushing local industries to innovate and produce more compelling content rather than resting on their laurels.
However, the flip side is that international films – particularly Hollywood productions with their massive marketing budgets and star power – can dominate market share to the point where local films struggle to gain visibility. This creates an uneven playing field where local productions, often working with modest budgets, find it hard to capture audience attention. There’s also a cultural dimension – if audiences predominantly consume foreign content, there’s a risk of cultural homogenization and erosion of local storytelling traditions.
I think the key is striking the right balance through policy. Some countries have successfully implemented screen quotas or subsidy programs that protect local industries while still allowing international competition. France is a good case in point – they’ve managed to maintain a robust domestic film industry despite being open to foreign films. So it’s not about shutting out international cinema but rather ensuring local industries have the support they need to thrive.
Phân tích:
- Structure: State complexity → Positive effects với multiple dimensions → Negative effects với cultural consideration → Solution-oriented conclusion với example
- Vocabulary: Highly sophisticated “double-edged sword”, “raises the bar”, “production standards”, “knowledge transfer”, “film on location”, “builds technical capacity”, “expand the overall market”, “increased footfall”, “zero-sum game”, “pushing industries to innovate”, “resting on their laurels”, “dominate market share”, “struggle to gain visibility”, “uneven playing field”, “modest budgets”, “capture audience attention”, “cultural homogenization”, “erosion of local storytelling traditions”, “striking the right balance”, “screen quotas”, “subsidy programs”, “robust domestic film industry”
- Grammar: Complex conditionals, relative clauses, participle clauses, sophisticated noun phrases
- Critical Thinking: Nuanced analysis recognizing both economic benefits and cultural risks, provides policy solutions, uses international comparison, avoids simplistic answers
💡 Key Language Features:
- Metaphors: “double-edged sword”, “raises the bar”, “zero-sum game”, “resting on their laurels”, “uneven playing field”
- Academic hedging: “I’d say”, “can be”, “there’s a risk of”, “I think”
- Examples: France as comparative case study adds credibility
Theme 3: Fame and Privacy
Question 5: Should famous people expect to have less privacy than ordinary citizens?
🎯 Phân tích câu hỏi:
- Dạng: Should question – normative judgment about rights and privacy
- Key words: “expect”, “less privacy”, “ordinary citizens”
- Cách tiếp cận: Consider the trade-off between public interest and personal rights → acknowledge different contexts → take a position with nuanced reasoning
📝 Sample Answer – Band 6-7:
This is a difficult question. I think famous people should have some privacy because they are also human beings and need personal space. However, because they are public figures, people want to know about them. The media wants to report news about celebrities because it sells. So maybe famous people need to accept that they will have less privacy than normal people. But there should be limits – paparazzi shouldn’t follow them everywhere or bother their families.
Phân tích:
- Structure: Acknowledge difficulty → present both sides → suggest compromise
- Vocabulary: Basic “difficult question”, “human beings”, “personal space”, “public figures”, “want to know”, “need to accept”, “there should be limits”
- Tại sao Band 6-7: Shows awareness of complexity but lacks sophisticated legal/ethical framework và specific examples
📝 Sample Answer – Band 8-9:
This touches on quite a thorny ethical issue that pits public interest against individual rights. I think we need to draw some distinctions here rather than making blanket statements. There’s a difference between legitimate public scrutiny of someone’s professional conduct – which I think comes with the territory of being a public figure – and invasive coverage of their personal lives that serves no real public interest.
For instance, if a politician or business leader who’s in the public eye engages in corruption or behavior that impacts their ability to serve, then yes, heightened scrutiny is justified – they’ve accepted that responsibility by taking on public roles. Similarly, actors and entertainers who actively court publicity to advance their careers can’t really complain when media attention comes their way, though even then, there should be reasonable boundaries.
However, I firmly believe that certain aspects of private life should remain sacrosanct – family members who haven’t sought the limelight, children especially, and intimate personal matters that have no bearing on their public role. The problem is that the tabloid media often blurs these lines, justifying intrusive paparazzi tactics and privacy violations under the guise of public interest when really it’s just sensationalism for profit.
Looking at different legal frameworks around the world is instructive. Countries like France have much stricter privacy protections even for public figures, while the UK and US tend to prioritize press freedom more heavily. I’d argue for a middle path that recognizes celebrities are entitled to a private life while accepting some degree of public interest in their professional activities. The key is proportionality – the intrusion should be proportionate to the legitimate public interest, not just public curiosity or commercial considerations.
Ultimately, I think we as a society need to examine our appetite for celebrity gossip and recognize that consuming intrusive content makes us complicit in these privacy violations. Just because someone is famous doesn’t render them fair game for unlimited invasion into every aspect of their existence.
Phân tích:
- Structure: Acknowledge ethical complexity → Draw distinctions between different scenarios → Give examples for justified scrutiny → Defend privacy rights with specific exceptions → Compare legal frameworks → Propose balanced approach → Broaden to societal responsibility
- Vocabulary: Highly sophisticated “thorny ethical issue”, “pits public interest against individual rights”, “draw distinctions”, “blanket statements”, “legitimate public scrutiny”, “comes with the territory”, “invasive coverage”, “serves no public interest”, “heightened scrutiny is justified”, “actively court publicity”, “reasonable boundaries”, “remain sacrosanct”, “sought the limelight”, “no bearing on”, “blurs these lines”, “intrusive paparazzi tactics”, “under the guise of”, “sensationalism for profit”, “stricter privacy protections”, “prioritize press freedom”, “middle path”, “proportionality”, “the intrusion should be proportionate”, “public curiosity”, “commercial considerations”, “examine our appetite”, “complicit in”, “render them fair game”
- Grammar: Complex conditionals, relative clauses, passive constructions, gerunds, sophisticated use of modal verbs
- Critical Thinking: Highly nuanced – distinguishes between types of public figures and types of information, considers legal perspectives from different countries, proposes principled framework (proportionality), acknowledges societal complicity, avoids absolutist positions
💡 Key Language Features:
- Discourse markers: “For instance”, “Similarly”, “However”, “Looking at”, “Ultimately”
- Hedging and certainty: Mix of “I firmly believe”, “I’d argue for”, “I think we need” shows appropriate certainty levels
- Legal/ethical terminology: “public interest”, “individual rights”, “legitimate”, “proportionality”, “privacy protections”, “press freedom”
- Rhetorical devices: “Just because someone is famous doesn’t render them fair game” – effective closing statement
Question 6: How do you think social media has changed the way actors interact with their fans?
🎯 Phân tích câu hỏi:
- Dạng: How question về changes – analyzing impact of technology
- Key words: “social media”, “changed”, “interact”, “fans”
- Cách tiếp cận: Compare before and after social media → identify multiple dimensions of change → assess positives and negatives → consider future implications
📝 Sample Answer – Band 6-7:
Social media has changed things a lot. Before, actors could only interact with fans through interviews or fan meetings. Now, they can post on Instagram or Facebook directly and fans can comment. This makes actors closer to their fans. Fans feel like they know the actors better. Actors can also promote their movies easily on social media. However, sometimes actors receive negative comments and this can be stressful for them.
Phân tích:
- Structure: Before vs after comparison → positive impacts → mention negative aspect
- Vocabulary: Basic “changed things a lot”, “closer to their fans”, “feel like they know”, “promote easily”, “negative comments”, “stressful”
- Tại sao Band 6-7: Covers main points but analysis is superficial, lacks specific examples và sophisticated understanding of parasocial relationships
📝 Sample Answer – Band 8-9:
Social media has absolutely revolutionized the dynamic between celebrities and their audiences – it’s been nothing short of transformative. Previously, the relationship was highly mediated – fans could only access celebrities through traditional gatekeepers like journalists, publicists, or carefully curated public appearances. There was an element of mystique that came with that distance.
Now, platforms like Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok have dismantled those barriers, creating seemingly direct channels of communication. Actors can share glimpses of their daily lives, offer behind-the-scenes content, and engage in real-time interactions with fans. This has fostered a sense of intimacy and accessibility that was previously impossible. Fans feel they’re getting an authentic, unfiltered view of their favorite stars, which can deepen emotional connections and strengthen fan loyalty.
From a business perspective, this is incredibly valuable – actors can cultivate their personal brands, maintain visibility between projects, and directly promote their work without relying on traditional marketing channels. They’ve become their own media outlets, essentially. Some actors have really mastered this space, using social media not just for self-promotion but also to advocate for causes, engage in social discourse, and humanize themselves in ways that enhance their public image.
However, there’s a darker side to this accessibility. The constant pressure to maintain an online presence can be exhausting, and the line between public persona and private life becomes increasingly blurred. Actors face relentless scrutiny – every post is analyzed and potentially weaponized. The comment sections can be toxic breeding grounds for harassment, and the expectation of constant availability can be mentally taxing. There’s also the issue of parasocial relationships becoming more intense – some fans develop unhealthy attachments, blurring boundaries between admiration and obsession.
Looking ahead, I think we’ll see actors becoming more strategic and selective about their social media presence. Some are already stepping back or employing social media managers to maintain some separation. The initial novelty of direct access may give way to more boundaried forms of engagement as both celebrities and fans navigate the complexities of these platforms. It’s an ongoing evolution that reflects broader societal questions about digital connectivity and personal boundaries in the age of social media.
Phân tích:
- Structure: Describe previous state → explain current transformation → analyze business benefits → acknowledge negative consequences → predict future trends and broader implications
- Vocabulary: Exceptional range “revolutionized the dynamic”, “nothing short of transformative”, “highly mediated”, “traditional gatekeepers”, “carefully curated”, “element of mystique”, “dismantled those barriers”, “seemingly direct channels”, “share glimpses”, “behind-the-scenes content”, “real-time interactions”, “fostered a sense of intimacy”, “authentic unfiltered view”, “deepen emotional connections”, “strengthen fan loyalty”, “cultivate personal brands”, “maintain visibility”, “their own media outlets”, “mastered this space”, “advocate for causes”, “engage in social discourse”, “humanize themselves”, “enhance public image”, “darker side”, “constant pressure”, “line becomes blurred”, “relentless scrutiny”, “analyzed and weaponized”, “toxic breeding grounds”, “expectation of constant availability”, “parasocial relationships”, “unhealthy attachments”, “blurring boundaries”, “stepping back”, “employing social media managers”, “maintain some separation”, “boundaried forms of engagement”, “navigate the complexities”, “ongoing evolution”, “broader societal questions”, “digital connectivity”
- Grammar: Full range including perfect aspects, passives, conditionals, complex noun phrases, participle clauses
- Critical Thinking: Multi-dimensional analysis covering technology, psychology, business, ethics; historical comparison; future predictions; connects to broader social trends

Chiến Lược và Lời Khuyên Từ Examiner
Những Lỗi Phổ Biến Cần Tránh
2. Thiếu specific examples:
Trả lời quá general như “many people think”, “it’s good/bad” mà không có concrete examples. Hãy luôn support ideas bằng specific cases, statistics, personal experience hoặc references đến phim/diễn viên cụ thể. Ví dụ thay vì nói “Vietnamese cinema has improved”, nói “Films like Furie and The Third Wife have achieved international distribution, which was unthinkable a decade ago.”
3. Vocabulary mismatch:
4. Ngắt quãng và silent pauses:
Các khoảng lặng kéo dài làm giảm điểm Fluency nghiêm trọng. Học cách dùng fillers tự nhiên như “Well”, “Let me think”, “That’s an interesting question” để maintain flow trong khi organize thoughts.
5. Yes/No answers không elaboration:
Đặc biệt trong Part 1 và 3, trả lời Yes hoặc No rồi dừng lại. Luôn extend answer với reason, example, hoặc personal opinion. Rule of thumb: aim for 2-3 câu minimum cho Part 1, 3-5 câu cho Part 3.

Good luck!
