IELTS Speaking Part 1: Introduction and Interview

📝 Sample Answer – Band 8-9:
Definitely. Growing up, I looked up to my grandfather tremendously. He would often go the extra mile – literally walking several kilometers to visit students who’d dropped out and persuade their families about the importance of schooling. IELTS Speaking Part 2: Long Turn (Cue Card)
Đặc biệt chú ý đến câu “And explain…”
Cue Card
Describe a person who is very inspiring
You should say:
- Who this person is
- How you know this person
- What this person does
- And explain why you find this person inspiring
- Bullet 2 (How you know): Mô tả mối quan hệ hoặc cách bạn biết đến người này – trực tiếp quen biết, qua media, hay nghe kể
- Bullet 3 (What they do): Hành động, công việc, hoặc achievements cụ thể của họ – đây là phần substantial nhất
- Bullet 4 (Why inspiring): Explanation về qualities, values, hoặc impact mà họ mang lại – đây là critical part ghi điểm cao nhất
Câu “explain” quan trọng: Phần explain chiếm khoảng 40% giá trị của câu trả lời. Đây là nơi bạn demonstrate critical thinking, personal reflection, và ability to articulate complex ideas. Đừng chỉ nói “because they are kind” mà cần phân tích deeper về how và why their qualities matter, the impact they have, và what you’ve learned from them.
📝 Sample Answer – Band 6-7
Thời lượng: Khoảng 1.5-2 phút
I would like to talk about my mother, who is very inspiring to me. She is 52 years old and works as a nurse at the local hospital in my hometown.
I have known her all my life because she is my mother. She raised me and my two brothers by herself after my father passed away when I was ten years old. It was a difficult time for our family, but she never gave up.
My mother works very hard every day. She usually works long shifts at the hospital, sometimes even during holidays and weekends. She takes care of many patients and always does her job with patience and care. Besides her work, she also makes sure we have everything we need at home. She cooks for us, helps us with our problems, and always supports our education.
I find my mother very inspiring for several reasons. First, she is very strong and determined. Even when life was hard after my father died, she worked two jobs to make sure we could go to school and have a good life. Second, she is very kind to everyone. She treats her patients like family and many people thank her for her help. Finally, she taught me important values like working hard and never giving up. When I face difficulties, I always think about my mother and how she overcame her challenges. This gives me strength to keep trying.
In conclusion, my mother is the most inspiring person I know. She showed me that with determination and hard work, we can overcome any difficulty in life.

📝 Sample Answer – Band 7.5-8
Thời lượng: Khoảng 2-2.5 phút
I’d like to talk about Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan, a remarkable pediatrician who I’ve had the privilege of knowing for the past five years. She’s someone who truly embodies the spirit of selfless dedication to helping others, particularly children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
I first came across Dr. Lan when I was volunteering at a charity clinic in my city. She was the head physician there, working entirely pro bono on her weekends. What immediately struck me was not just her exceptional medical expertise, but the way she connected with each child and their families. She treated them with such genuine warmth and respect, never making them feel like they were receiving charity.
What makes Dr. Lan particularly special is her holistic approach to healthcare. She doesn’t just treat illnesses – she goes above and beyond to address the underlying social issues that affect her patients’ health. For instance, she’s established a network of sponsors who help cover educational expenses for children from poor families, believing that education is crucial for breaking the cycle of poverty. She’s also been instrumental in setting up health education programs in rural schools, teaching children about nutrition and hygiene. Despite being in her sixties and having every reason to retire comfortably, she continues to work tirelessly, often putting in twelve-hour days.
The reason I find Dr. Lan so inspiring is multifaceted. Firstly, she’s a living example of how one person can make a tangible difference in countless lives. Through her work, hundreds of children have received medical care they otherwise couldn’t afford. Secondly, her approach to life challenges conventional thinking about success. In a society where wealth and status are often prioritized, she’s chosen a path of service, finding fulfillment in improving others’ lives rather than accumulating material possessions. What resonates with me most, though, is her belief that every child deserves equal opportunities, regardless of their economic background. This philosophy has profoundly influenced my own values and career aspirations. Whenever I feel discouraged or tempted to take the easy path, I think of Dr. Lan’s unwavering commitment and it reignites my motivation to contribute meaningfully to society.

📝 Sample Answer – Band 8.5-9
Thời lượng: 2.5-3 phút đầy đủ
I’d like to tell you about Professor Tran Van Minh, a pioneering marine biologist whose work I’ve been following for nearly a decade. He’s someone who epitomizes the perfect fusion of scientific excellence and grassroots environmental activism, and his influence has been nothing short of transformative, both professionally and personally for me.
I first became aware of Professor Tran when I attended one of his public lectures on coral reef conservation during my university years. What set him apart from other academics I’d encountered was his remarkable gift for making complex scientific concepts accessible without diluting their significance. He had this infectious enthusiasm that made you genuinely care about ecosystems you’d never even seen. After that lecture, I started following his research and eventually had the opportunity to work as a volunteer on one of his marine conservation projects in the Con Dao Islands, which cemented my respect for his work.
Now, what makes Professor Tran’s contributions particularly noteworthy isn’t merely his groundbreaking research on coral restoration – though that alone would be considerable. It’s the way he’s bridged the gap between academia and practical conservation. He’s developed cost-effective coral farming techniques that local fishing communities can actually implement, turning potential adversaries of conservation into its strongest advocates. Rather than adopting the typical top-down approach that many environmentalists favor, he’s empowered local communities to become stewards of their own marine resources. His model has been replicated in over fifteen coastal provinces across Vietnam, and it’s been fascinating to see how he’s essentially created a blueprint for community-driven conservation that other scientists are now studying.
But here’s what I find most inspiring: at 68, an age when most academics are content to rest on their laurels, he’s pushing boundaries more vigorously than ever. He spends weeks living in remote fishing villages, often under fairly spartan conditions, documenting how climate change is affecting traditional fishing practices. He’s leveraged social media in ways that would put many millennials to shame, creating viral content that’s raised awareness about ocean conservation among younger generations. And perhaps most impressively, he’s weathered considerable criticism from those who believe environmental protection comes at the expense of economic development, yet he’s never wavered in his conviction that the two can be complementary.
The reason Professor Tran resonates so deeply with me goes beyond admiration for his achievements. He’s challenged my preconceptions about what it means to make a meaningful contribution to society. I used to think that impact required operating on a grand scale – influencing policy at the national level or making headline-grabbing discoveries. But Professor Tran has shown me that lasting change often comes from patient, sustained effort at the community level, building trust and transferring knowledge in ways that empower others to carry the work forward. His approach runs counter to our society’s obsession with instant results and viral fame, yet it’s proven far more effective in the long run.
What strikes me most profoundly is his philosophy that scientists have a moral obligation not just to understand the world but to actively work towards its preservation, and to do so in ways that respect and include the people most affected by environmental changes. This worldview has fundamentally reshaped my career trajectory. I’m now pursuing environmental science myself, and I constantly ask myself: How can I bridge theory and practice? How can I make my work accessible and inclusive? These questions, inspired by Professor Tran’s example, have become my guiding principles.
In an era where cynicism about humanity’s future often feels justified, Professor Tran is a powerful reminder that dedicated individuals can indeed bend the arc towards positive change, one community, one reef, one person at a time.

Follow-up Questions (Rounding Off Questions)
Question 1: Do you still keep in touch with this person?
Band 6-7 Answer:
Yes, I do. I follow his social media pages and sometimes watch his videos online. I hope to meet him again someday.
Band 8-9 Answer:
Absolutely. I make it a point to attend his public talks whenever possible, and we occasionally correspond via email about conservation projects. In fact, I’m hoping to collaborate with his team on a research project next year, which would be an incredible opportunity.
Question 2: Would you like to be like this person in the future?
Band 6-7 Answer:
Yes, I would. I want to help people and make a difference like he does. I think his work is very meaningful and important.
Band 8-9 Answer:
In many ways, yes. While I may not follow the exact same career trajectory, I definitely aspire to emulate his commitment to making tangible, positive impacts and his ability to inspire others to take action. His model of marrying passion with purpose is something I’d very much like to incorporate into my own professional life.
IELTS Speaking Part 3: Two-way Discussion
Sử dụng discourse markers để organize ideas (Well, Actually, On the one hand, However, I think). Đừng ngại acknowledge complexity của issues bằng tentative language (It seems to me, To some extent, I would say).
Theme 1: Role Models and Society
Question 1: What qualities do people generally look for in role models nowadays?
🎯 Phân tích câu hỏi:
- Dạng: Opinion/Description – yêu cầu generalization về social trends
- Key words: qualities, role models, nowadays (so sánh với past có thể tốt)
- Cách tiếp cận: Nêu 2-3 qualities chính → giải thích why they matter → examples từ society → có thể add nuance về changes over time
📝 Sample Answer – Band 6-7:
I think people nowadays look for role models who are successful and famous. For example, many young people admire celebrities like singers or actors because they are rich and popular. People also like role models who help others, like charity workers. Another quality is being honest and real, not fake. This is important because people want to trust their role models.
Phân tích:
- Structure: Có attempt to give multiple qualities nhưng organization còn loose
- Vocabulary: Basic (successful, famous, rich, popular, honest, real, fake, trust)
Examples quá general (singers or actors) thay vì specific. Thiếu sophisticated language và critical analysis về why these qualities matter in modern context.
📝 Sample Answer – Band 8-9:
Well, I’d say there’s been quite a shift in what people value in role models in recent years. Increasingly, people seem drawn to figures who demonstrate authenticity rather than just polished perfection. This is particularly evident among younger generations who are quite savvy about manufactured images on social media – they’re looking for people who are transparent about their struggles and failures, not just their successes.
Beyond authenticity, I think people nowadays prioritize role models who use their platform for social good. It’s no longer sufficient to simply be talented or successful; there’s an expectation that influential figures will leverage their visibility to champion important causes – whether that’s environmental sustainability, mental health awareness, or social justice. We’ve seen this with celebrities like Emma Watson or Leonardo DiCaprio, whose advocacy work has become integral to their public persona.
However, I’d also argue that the definition of a role model has become more democratized. Thanks to social media, people don’t only look up to high-profile figures – they’re equally likely to be inspired by everyday individuals who demonstrate resilience, whether that’s a teacher who goes above and beyond, or someone who’s overcome adversity in their local community. This grassroots admiration, I think, reflects a growing recognition that inspiration can come from anywhere, not just from people in the spotlight.
Phân tích:
- Structure: Extremely well-organized: Opening statement → Quality 1 (authenticity) + explanation + example → Quality 2 (social responsibility) + explanation + examples → Contrasting point about democratization + conclusion. Shows sophisticated discourse management.
- Vocabulary: Precise và sophisticated (shift in what people value, demonstrate authenticity, polished perfection, savvy about manufactured images, transparent about struggles, prioritize, leverage their visibility, champion important causes, integral to public persona, democratized, high-profile figures, grassroots admiration, reflects a growing recognition)
- Grammar: Complex structures naturally used (This is particularly evident among younger generations who…, It’s no longer sufficient to simply be…, there’s an expectation that…, I’d also argue that…, Thanks to social media…)
- Critical Thinking: Shows ability to analyze trends, compare past and present, acknowledge complexity (democratization of role models), và provide specific examples to support points
💡 Key Language Features:
- Discourse markers: Well, Increasingly, Beyond, However, I’d also argue
- Tentative language: I’d say, I think, seems, I’d argue – shows sophisticated English bằng cách avoid absolute statements
- Abstract nouns: authenticity, perfection, sustainability, awareness, justice, advocacy, resilience, adversity, admiration, recognition
Question 2: Do you think celebrities have a responsibility to be good role models?
🎯 Phân tích câu hỏi:
- Dạng: Opinion với ethical dimension – cần present balanced view
- Key words: celebrities, responsibility, good role models
- Cách tiếp cận: State your position → Arguments supporting → Counter-argument → Conclusion with nuance
📝 Sample Answer – Band 6-7:
Yes, I think celebrities should be good role models because many people, especially young people, follow them. If celebrities do bad things, their fans might copy them. For example, if a famous singer uses drugs, young fans might think it’s okay to do the same. However, celebrities are also normal people and they can make mistakes. So I think they should try to be good examples, but we shouldn’t expect them to be perfect.
Phân tích:
- Structure: Has position → reason → example → counter-point → conclusion, nhưng development còn superficial
- Vocabulary: Simple (bad things, copy them, normal people, make mistakes, good examples)
Example about drugs quá predictable. Không explore complexity of the issue deeply.
📝 Sample Answer – Band 8.5-9:
This is quite a contentious issue, and I think it really depends on how we define “responsibility”. On one hand, I believe that when someone chooses to step into the public eye and actively cultivates a following – particularly among impressionable young people – they do assume a certain moral obligation to be mindful of their influence. The reality is that celebrities wield tremendous power in shaping attitudes and behaviors, whether they acknowledge it or not. Research has shown that parasocial relationships – where fans develop one-sided emotional connections with celebrities – can significantly influence everything from purchasing decisions to lifestyle choices. Given this power, I’d argue there’s definitely an ethical dimension to their public behavior.
That said, I think we need to be careful about placing unrealistic expectations on celebrities. After all, they’re human beings who are entitled to make mistakes and have private lives. The problem arises when we conflate fame with moral authority – just because someone is talented at acting or sports doesn’t necessarily mean they’re equipped to serve as a moral compass. What I find problematic is when celebrities actively market themselves as role models – perhaps by targeting children in their advertising or deliberately cultivating a wholesome image – but then behave hypocritically in ways that contradict that image.
Perhaps more importantly, I think the real responsibility lies with parents, educators, and society at large to help young people develop critical thinking skills so they don’t blindly idolize celebrities. We should teach children to distinguish between entertainment value and life guidance, and to seek inspiration from people in their actual lives rather than projecting idealized virtues onto distant famous figures. Celebrity culture will always exist, but if we foster more discernment among young people, the question of whether celebrities need to be perfect role models becomes less critical.
So in summary, while I believe celebrities should be conscious of their influence, ultimate responsibility for navigating celebrity culture rests with individuals, families, and broader social institutions.
Phân tích:
- Structure: Sophisticated multi-layered argument: Acknowledges complexity of issue → Argument for responsibility + evidence → Counter-argument about unrealistic expectations → Additional perspective about where true responsibility lies → Summary/conclusion. Shows high-level critical thinking.
- Vocabulary: Exemplary range (contentious issue, step into the public eye, cultivates, assume a moral obligation, wield tremendous power, parasocial relationships, purchasing decisions, placing unrealistic expectations, conflate, equipped to serve, problematic, targeting children, hypocritically, blindly idolize, distinguish between, projecting idealized virtues, foster discernment, conscious of, ultimate responsibility, broader social institutions)
- Grammar: Full range used naturally (conditional structures, relative clauses, participle clauses, passive voice, inversion). Complex ideas expressed clearly: “Given this power, I’d argue there’s definitely…”, “The problem arises when we conflate…”, “What I find problematic is when…”
- Critical Thinking: Exceptional. Shows ability to see multiple perspectives, question assumptions (just because someone is talented doesn’t mean they’re equipped to serve as moral compass), bring in research (parasocial relationships), và propose solutions (critical thinking skills)
💡 Key Language Features:
- Acknowledging complexity: “This is quite a contentious issue”, “it really depends on”, “That said”, “Perhaps more importantly”
- Hedging và tentative language: “I think”, “I believe”, “I’d argue”, “doesn’t necessarily mean”
- Academic style: “Research has shown that”, “Given this power”, “the reality is that”
- Contrasting: “On one hand”, “That said”, “while”
Theme 2: Inspiration and Achievement
Question 3: Why do you think some people are more successful in inspiring others than others?
🎯 Phân tích câu hỏi:
- Dạng: Cause-Effect/Analysis – cần explain reasons và factors
- Key words: some people, more successful, inspiring others
- Cách tiếp cận: Identify multiple factors → explain each → examples → có thể add về how these factors interact
📝 Sample Answer – Band 6-7:
I think some people inspire others more because they have good communication skills. If someone can speak well and explain their ideas clearly, people will listen to them. Also, people who have achieved success in their life can inspire others because they show what is possible. Another reason is that some people have strong personalities that attract others. For example, a confident person who is also kind will inspire more people than someone who is shy.
- Vocabulary: Basic (good communication skills, speak well, achieved success, strong personalities, attract others, confident, kind, shy)
Personality description too simplistic. Example about confidence vs shyness quite black-and-white.
📝 Sample Answer – Band 8.5-9:
I think the ability to inspire others hinges on several interconnected factors, and it’s rarely just one quality that makes the difference.
First and foremost, I’d say authenticity plays a crucial role. People who inspire others most effectively tend to be those who practice what they preach – there’s congruence between their words and actions. When someone talks about perseverance while simultaneously demonstrating it in their own life, their message carries weight in a way that mere rhetoric never could. We see this with figures like Malala Yousafzai, whose unwavering commitment to education despite facing life-threatening opposition lends credibility to her advocacy.
Beyond authenticity, I think relatability is surprisingly important. People who inspire us most strike a balance between being aspirational and accessible. If someone seems too perfect or their achievements feel completely out of reach, they may command respect but not necessarily inspire us to action. The most effective inspirational figures are those who are transparent about their struggles and failures, making their journey feel attainable. This is why we often see people more moved by stories of individuals who’ve overcome adversity rather than those who’ve had a relatively smooth path to success.
I’d also highlight emotional intelligence as a critical factor. People who truly inspire others possess an ability to tap into universal human emotions and experiences. They understand what resonates with people at a visceral level – whether that’s hope, justice, belonging, or purpose. Master inspirers, if you will, frame their message in ways that help others see themselves as part of something larger and more meaningful.
Finally, I think timing and context matter more than we often acknowledge. Sometimes individuals become inspirational not solely because of their inherent qualities, but because they emerge at a moment when society desperately needs the particular message or example they provide. Think about how environmental activists have become increasingly inspirational as climate anxiety has intensified – their message hasn’t necessarily changed, but the receptiveness of the audience has.
So in essence, successful inspiration is a convergence of personal authenticity, relatable human qualities, emotional intelligence, and often, being the right person at the right time with the right message.
Phân tích:
- Structure: Exceptional organization: Introduces multi-factor approach → Factor 1 (authenticity) + explanation + specific example → Factor 2 (relatability) + nuanced explanation → Factor 3 (emotional intelligence) → Factor 4 (context/timing) + example → Synthesis conclusion
- Vocabulary: Sophisticated và precise (hinges on, interconnected factors, practice what they preach, congruence, carries weight, mere rhetoric, unwavering commitment, lends credibility, strike a balance, aspirational and accessible, out of reach, command respect, transparent about, attainable, overcome adversity, emotional intelligence, tap into, resonates, master inspirers, frame their message, emerge at, desperately needs, climate anxiety has intensified, receptiveness, convergence of)
- Grammar: Full range demonstrated: complex conditionals (If someone seems too perfect… they may command respect but not necessarily inspire), relative clauses, participle clauses, passive constructions (are more moved by), cleft sentences (This is why we often see…), cohesive devices used expertly
- Critical Thinking: Outstanding. Goes beyond obvious answers to explore nuanced factors. Shows ability to synthesize multiple elements. Acknowledges external factors (timing, context) not just individual qualities. Uses specific, thoughtful examples (Malala, environmental activists).
💡 Key Language Features:
- Academic discourse markers: First and foremost, Beyond, I’d also highlight, Finally, So in essence
- Qualifying language: I think, I’d say, tend to be, surprisingly, often, more than we often acknowledge
- Abstract conceptualization: congruence, rhetoric, credibility, relatability, aspirational, emotional intelligence, receptiveness, convergence
- Sophisticated comparisons: between…and, rather than, not solely…but, not necessarily

Theme 3: Media and Inspiration
Question 4: How has social media changed the way people find inspiration?
🎯 Phân tích câu hỏi:
- Dạng: Compare/Contrast (past vs present), Cause-Effect
- Key words: social media, changed, find inspiration
- Cách tiếp cận: Describe how it was before → How it is now (changes) → Effects/implications → Balanced view (positive and negative)
📝 Sample Answer – Band 7-8:
Social media has definitely changed how people find inspiration in significant ways. In the past, people mostly found inspiration from people they knew personally, like family members or teachers, or from famous people they saw on TV or in newspapers. Now, with social media, people can discover inspiring figures from all over the world instantly.
I think one major change is accessibility. Anyone with a smartphone can now follow inspirational people on Instagram, YouTube, or TikTok. You don’t need to wait for TV programs or buy magazines – inspiration is available 24/7. For example, young people today can watch motivational videos from entrepreneurs, athletes, or activists whenever they want, which makes seeking inspiration more convenient than ever before.
Another change is that social media has democratized who can be inspiring. In the past, you usually needed to be already famous or have achieved something major to inspire others on a large scale. Now, ordinary people who share their personal journeys – whether that’s overcoming illness, learning new skills, or pursuing unusual careers – can build followings and inspire thousands or even millions. This has made inspiration more diverse and relatable.
However, there’s also a downside. Social media can create unrealistic expectations because people often only share their highlight reels – their successes and happy moments – not their struggles. This curated content can sometimes make others feel inadequate rather than inspired. Additionally, the sheer volume of content can be overwhelming, making it hard to distinguish genuine inspiration from people just trying to build their personal brand.
Phân tích:
- Structure: Clear comparison past/present, multiple changes identified, balanced view with negative aspects
- Vocabulary: Good range (significant ways, inspiring figures, accessibility, motivational videos, democratized, personal journeys, overcoming illness, diverse, relatable, unrealistic expectations, highlight reels, curated content, sheer volume, overwhelming, genuine inspiration, personal brand)
- Tại sao Band 7-8: Well-organized với clear development of ideas. Vocabulary good và appropriate. Grammar mostly accurate với variety. Shows critical thinking bằng acknowledging both positive và negative effects. Could reach 8+ với more sophisticated expressions và deeper analysis.
📝 Sample Answer – Band 8.5-9:
Social media has absolutely revolutionized the landscape of inspiration in ways that are both profound and, I’d argue, somewhat paradoxical.
Perhaps the most fundamental shift has been the democratization of influence. Pre-internet, the ability to inspire large numbers of people was largely concentrated in traditional gatekeepers – publishers, broadcasters, institutions. If you weren’t endorsed by these entities, your reach was inevitably limited. Social media has dismantled these barriers, enabling virtually anyone with an internet connection to share their story and potentially resonate with a global audience. We’ve seen people from marginalized communities whose stories would never have made it through traditional media filters now amassing substantial followings and challenging mainstream narratives about success and achievement.
This has led to what I’d call an unprecedented diversification of inspirational content. Rather than a relatively homogeneous set of role models dictated by mass media, people can now curate their inspiration to align with their specific interests, values, and identities. Someone interested in sustainable living can follow dozens of zero-waste advocates, while someone navigating a particular health challenge can connect with communities of people facing similar struggles. This granularity and specificity simply wasn’t possible before.
However – and this is where the paradox comes in – I think this abundance has actually made authentic inspiration harder to find in some ways. Social media platforms are algorithmically designed to maximize engagement, which often means promoting content that’s visually striking or emotionally provocative rather than genuinely meaningful. There’s also the phenomenon of performative inspiration – people crafting carefully curated personas that present an illusion of an inspiring life while potentially concealing a very different reality. The aspirational lifestyle content we see constantly can create what psychologists call comparative despair – people feel worse about their lives the more they consume this content, which is the antithesis of true inspiration.
Additionally, I think the instantaneous nature of social media has somewhat cheapened the concept of inspiration. When we’re bombarded with supposedly inspirational content constantly – every quote, every success story, every transformation photo – there’s a risk of desensitization. Inspiration becomes just another form of consumable content rather than something that sparks genuine internal transformation.
So while social media has undeniably expanded access to diverse sources of inspiration, I think we’re still grappling with how to navigate this new landscape in ways that foster authentic motivation rather than just superficial engagement or, worse, disillusionment. The technology has changed; whether we’ve adapted our consumption habits in healthy ways remains an open question.
Phân tích:
- Structure: Exceptional – sophisticated thesis with paradox introduced → Major change 1 (democratization) deeply explored → Major change 2 (diversification) with specific examples → Counterpoint about negative effects extensively developed → Synthesis về ongoing challenges. Shows ability to develop complex argument comprehensively.
- Vocabulary: Outstanding range và precision (revolutionized, profound, paradoxical, fundamental shift, democratization of influence, concentrated in gatekeepers, endorsed by, dismantled these barriers, resonate with, marginalized communities, amassing, challenging mainstream narratives, unprecedented diversification, homogeneous, dictated by, curate, granularity, algorithmically designed, maximize engagement, visually striking, emotionally provocative, performative inspiration, curated personas, illusion, comparative despair, antithesis, instantaneous, cheapened, bombarded, desensitization, consumable content, sparks genuine internal transformation, undeniably expanded access, grappling with, foster authentic motivation, disillusionment)
- Grammar: Full mastery: complex conditionals, passive structures, relative clauses, participle constructions, noun phrases, gerunds as subjects. Seamless handling of complex ideas through sophisticated syntax.
- Critical Thinking: Exceptional analytical depth. Introduces paradox và explores it thoroughly. References psychology (comparative despair, desensitization). Considers múltiple dimensions (access, content, psychology, platforms’ role). Shows ability to synthesize complex issues và present nuanced conclusion.
💡 Key Language Features:
- Academic register: “I’d argue”, “Perhaps the most fundamental shift”, “This has led to”, “This is where the paradox comes in”, “psychologists call”, “remains an open question”
- Sophisticated transitions: “However – and this is where the paradox comes in”, “Additionally”, “So while…I think”
- Qualifying language: “somewhat”, “in some ways”, “often means”, “potentially”, “supposedly”
- Abstract conceptualization: democratization, gatekeepers, homogeneous content, granularity, algorithmic design, performative behavior, comparative despair, desensitization, internal transformation

Question 5: Do you think young people today have better role models than previous generations?
🎯 Phân tích câu hỏi:
- Dạng: Compare/Evaluate across generations – cần balanced argument
- Key words: young people today, better role models, previous generations
- Cách tiếp cận: Define what “better” means → Arguments for yes → Arguments for no → Nuanced conclusion
📝 Sample Answer – Band 7-8:
That’s an interesting question, and I think the answer isn’t straightforward. In some ways, yes, but in other ways, perhaps not.
On the positive side, I’d say young people today have access to a much more diverse range of role models than previous generations. Thanks to the internet and social media, they can find people who represent different backgrounds, careers, lifestyles, and values. For instance, a young person interested in technology can follow numerous successful entrepreneurs, not just the few that might appear in traditional media. This variety means young people are more likely to find someone they can relate to and aspire to become.
Moreover, many modern role models are more open and authentic about their challenges and mental health struggles, which makes them more humanized and relatable. Previous generations’ role models were often presented as flawless or untouchable, which could be discouraging rather than inspiring.
However, there are also arguments for the opposite view. The saturation of information today means that young people are also exposed to many negative influences and people who achieve fame without necessarily having admirable qualities. Reality TV stars or social media influencers who become famous for superficial reasons might not provide the same depth of inspiration as historical figures who made significant contributions to society.
Additionally, the emphasis on material success, appearance, and instant fame in today’s culture might mean that the criteria for what makes a good role model have shifted in ways that aren’t necessarily positive. Previous generations might have looked up to scientists, civil rights leaders, or people who dedicated their lives to service – role models based on substance rather than surface-level appeal.
So overall, I’d say it’s a mixed picture – young people have more options and accessibility, but whether those options are “better” depends on how we define role models and what values we prioritize.
Phân tích:
- Structure: Balanced two-sided argument well-organized: Introduction acknowledging complexity → Positive aspects (diversity, authenticity) → Negative aspects (saturation, superficiality) → Conclusion recognizing it depends on definition
- Vocabulary: Strong range (access to, diverse range, represent, relate to, aspire to, open and authentic, humanized, flawless, untouchable, discouraging, saturation, exposed to, made significant contributions, emphasis on, instant fame, criteria, shifted, substance, surface-level, mixed picture)
- Grammar: Good variety với complex sentences, conditional meanings, comparatives
- Critical Thinking: Shows ability to see both sides, consider what “better” means, acknowledge that answer depends on values
To reach 8.5-9 cần more sophisticated expressions, deeper analysis of underlying societal changes, và possibly more specific examples.

Sử dụng basic linking words (and, but, because, so). Có thể lặp lại ý hoặc từ ngữ.
Band 8-9: Nói tự nhiên với minimal hesitation. Discourse markers được sử dụng sophisticatedly (Well, Actually, Having said that, What strikes me most).
- ❌ “He is very perspicacious” (quá formal, không natural trong speaking)
- ✅ “He has remarkable insight into people’s motivations” (natural và sophisticated)
Ví dụ về good collocations:
- ✅ “unwavering commitment” (not “unchanging commitment”)
- ✅ “overcome adversity” (not “defeat difficulty”)
- ✅ “make a tangible difference” (not “make a touchable difference”)
Grammar – Accuracy vs Complexity:
Band 6-7: Chủ yếu simple và compound sentences. Complex structures có nhưng often with errors. Tenses cơ bản đúng.
Band 8-9: Wide range của structures used naturally: conditionals, relative clauses, participles, passive, inversions.
Pronunciation assessment focuses on:
- Intelligibility: Người nghe có hiểu bạn dễ dàng không?
- Word stress: “PHOtograph” vs “phoTOgraphy” vs “photoGRAPHic”
- Sentence stress: Nhấn mạnh information words, không stress function words
- Intonation: Rising cho questions, falling cho statements
Lỗi pronunciation của học viên Việt:
- Không phân biệt /s/ và /ʃ/ (see vs she)
2. Trả lời quá ngắn hoặc quá dài không đúng chỗ:
Part 1: 2-3 câu là ideal. Quá ngắn (just Yes/No) hoặc quá dài (5-6 câu) đều không phù hợp.
Part 2: Must nói 2-3 phút đầy đủ.
3. Không trả lời đúng câu hỏi:
Đây là lỗi serious. Ví dụ:
- Câu hỏi: “Why do you think…?” → Cần explain reasons
- Học viên trả lời: Kể story hoặc describe situation → Sai focus
Solution: Listen carefully, identify question type (Why/How/What/Compare/Opinion), và structure answer phù hợp.
4. Sử dụng từ vựng sai context:
Ví dụ phổ biến:
-
❌ “He is very appreciate” (Sai: appreciate là verb)
-
✅ “He is very appreciative” hoặc “I really appreciate him”
-
❌ “Make an influence on”
-
✅ “Have an influence on” hoặc “Influence someone”
5. Quá focus vào grammar mà mất đi fluency:

Ngày Thi – Những Điều Cần Nhớ
Trước khi vào phòng thi:
✅ Arrive 15-20 phút sớm để calm down
✅ Don’t cram vocabulary phút cuối – điều này sẽ make you more anxious
✅ Warm up voice: nói tiếng Anh với bản thân về bất kỳ topic nào
✅ Take deep breaths để relax
Trong phòng thi:
✅ Build rapport với examiner: Smile, make eye contact, be friendly.
✅ Listen carefully: Nếu không nghe rõ question, politely ask: “I’m sorry, could you repeat that?” hoặc “Could you rephrase the question, please?”
✅ Think before speaking (but not too long): 2-3 giây pause để organize thoughts là okay. Use discourse markers để buy time: “Well, that’s an interesting question…” “Let me think about that…”
Don’t dwell on it.
✅ Stay on topic: Nếu realize đang đi off-topic, politely redirect: “Sorry, coming back to your question…”
✅ Use body language: Hand gestures (not excessive), nodding, facial expressions – tất cả contribute to communication.
✅ Part 2 preparation time:
- Write keywords only, không write sentences
- Organize theo bullet points trong đề
- Leave space cho transition words
- Write pronunciation của từ khó nếu cần
✅ Maintain energy: Especially trong Part 2, keep enthusiasm trong voice. Monotone delivery sẽ lower Pronunciation score.
Sau mỗi part:
❌ Don’t dwell on mistakes. Part đã qua rồi, focus on part tiếp theo.
❌ Don’t judge performance based on examiner’s facial expressions. Examiners trained để maintain neutral face.
Khi kết thúc:
✅ Thank the examiner politely
✅ Don’t ask about your score – examiners cannot tell you
✅ Move on and focus on other parts of the test hoặc celebrate completion!
