📝 Sample Answer – Band 6-7
Thời lượng: Khoảng 1.5-2 phút
I’d like to talk about a time when I helped organize my friend’s graduation party last year. It was in June 2023, and we held it at a restaurant in the city center.
My friend asked me to help because she was very busy with her final exams. I was responsible for several things. First, I booked the restaurant and discussed the menu with the manager. I chose some popular dishes that everyone would like. Then, I created a guest list and sent invitations to about 30 people through Facebook. I also bought some decorations like balloons and banners to make the place look nice.
On the day of the party, I arrived early to set up everything. I arranged the tables and put the decorations around the room. I also prepared a slideshow with photos from our university years. When guests arrived, I welcomed them and made sure everyone was comfortable.
The party went well. Everyone enjoyed the food and had a good time. My friend was very happy and thanked me many times. I felt proud that I could help her celebrate this important moment. It was quite tiring to organize everything, but seeing her smile made all the effort worth it. This experience taught me that organizing events requires good planning and attention to detail. I also realized that helping friends on their special days is very meaningful.

Thời lượng: Khoảng 2-2.5 phút
I’d like to tell you about an experience I had organizing a charity fundraising event for underprivileged children, which took place in December 2023 at a local community center in my neighborhood.
The event was actually initiated by my university’s volunteer club, and I was appointed as one of the main coordinators. My primary responsibilities were quite diverse. I was in charge of securing sponsorships from local businesses, which involved reaching out to numerous companies and presenting our cause. I also oversaw the logistics, including booking the venue, arranging for audio-visual equipment, and coordinating with performers who had volunteered to entertain the children.
In the weeks leading up to the event, I found myself juggling multiple tasks simultaneously. There were moments when things didn’t go according to plan – for instance, one of our major sponsors pulled out at the last minute, and we had to scramble to find a replacement. However, through persistent effort and the support of my team members, we managed to pull it off successfully.
On the day itself, seeing over 100 children enjoying the performances, games, and gifts we’d prepared was incredibly heartwarming. What struck me most was how their faces lit up with joy – it was a powerful reminder of why we’d put in all that hard work.
Looking back, I felt an immense sense of accomplishment, not just because the event was successful, but because it made a tangible difference in these children’s lives. The experience taught me invaluable lessons about teamwork, problem-solving under pressure, and the importance of staying organized. It also reinforced my belief that even small acts of kindness can have a profound impact on our community.

📝 Sample Answer – Band 8.5-9
Thời lượng: 2.5-3 phút đầy đủ
I’d like to share an experience that stands out vividly in my memory – the time I spearheaded the organization of our company’s 10th-anniversary gala, which was held in September 2023 at the prestigious Grand Ballroom of the Metropole Hotel.
This wasn’t just any ordinary celebration; it was a milestone event that brought together over 200 stakeholders, including senior management, employees, clients, and industry partners. As the lead event coordinator, I found myself thrust into a role that demanded meticulous planning and exceptional organizational skills.
My responsibilities were multifaceted and quite demanding. I was tasked with overseeing every aspect of the event, from conceptualizing the theme – which we decided should reflect the company’s journey and future vision – to liaising with high-profile vendors, managing a substantial budget of approximately $50,000, and orchestrating the program flow. I also had to coordinate closely with our PR team to ensure seamless media coverage and create compelling multimedia presentations that would resonate with our diverse audience.
The run-up to the event was nothing short of intense. There were numerous challenges that tested my resilience – a last-minute venue issue when we discovered the air conditioning system was malfunctioning, budget constraints that required creative problem-solving, and the pressure of managing different stakeholders’ expectations. I remember one particularly stressful moment when our keynote speaker had to cancel just three days before the event, and I had to scramble to secure a replacement of equal caliber.
However, what kept me going was the unwavering support of my team and the significance of the occasion. On the actual day, watching everything unfold smoothly – from the heartfelt speeches that brought many to tears, to the stunning visual displays that chronicled our company’s evolution, to the genuine camaraderie among attendees – was profoundly gratifying.
Reflecting on this experience, I felt an overwhelming mix of emotions – exhaustion certainly, but more importantly, an immense sense of pride and accomplishment. What this experience truly underscored for me was that successful event management isn’t merely about logistics and planning; it’s about creating meaningful moments that forge connections and leave lasting impressions. It also reinforced several key principles: the importance of staying calm under pressure, the value of building strong relationships with vendors and team members, and the necessity of maintaining flexibility when things inevitably go awry.
Moreover, this experience gave me a newfound appreciation for the intricate coordination required in large-scale events and significantly boosted my confidence in handling high-stakes projects. It was, without doubt, one of the most professionally enriching experiences of my career, and it solidified my passion for bringing people together through well-executed events.

Các Câu Hỏi Thảo Luận Sâu
Theme 1: Social and Cultural Aspects of Events
Question 1: Why do you think people enjoy attending events and celebrations?
🎯 Phân tích câu hỏi:
- Dạng: Reasons/Analysis question
- Key words: why, enjoy, events and celebrations
- Cách tiếp cận: Give multiple reasons với examples, có thể phân loại theo psychological/social needs
📝 Sample Answer – Band 6-7:
“I think people enjoy events because they want to have fun and relax. It’s a chance to meet friends and family that they don’t see often. Also, celebrations make people feel happy and help them forget about their daily problems. For example, birthday parties or weddings bring people together and create good memories.”
Phân tích:
- Structure: Direct answer → reasons → example, basic nhưng coherent
- Vocabulary: Simple words (have fun, feel happy, good memories)
- Tại sao Band 6-7: Communicates ideas clearly nhưng lacks depth và sophistication
📝 Sample Answer – Band 8-9:
“Well, I believe there are multiple layers to this. On a fundamental level, events and celebrations serve as crucial social bonding opportunities – they allow people to strengthen existing relationships and forge new connections in ways that everyday interactions simply can’t match. There’s something about shared experiences, particularly joyful ones, that creates lasting emotional bonds.
Beyond the social aspect, I think celebrations also fulfill a deep psychological need for marking significant milestones in our lives. Whether it’s a graduation, wedding, or even a cultural festival, these events give structure and meaning to our existence, helping us reflect on our journey and acknowledge achievements.
From a broader perspective, events also play a vital role in preserving cultural identity. In Vietnam, for instance, traditional celebrations like Tet or Mid-Autumn Festival serve as powerful reminders of our heritage and help transmit cultural values to younger generations. They’re not just about having fun – they’re about maintaining a sense of continuity with our past while celebrating our present.”
Phân tích:
- Structure: Multi-layered response với clear signposting (On a fundamental level, Beyond…, From a broader perspective)
- Vocabulary: Abstract nouns (social bonding opportunities, psychological need, cultural identity), sophisticated collocations (forge new connections, transmit cultural values)
- Grammar: Complex structures (whether it’s…or, helping us reflect, serve as powerful reminders)
- Critical Thinking: Analyzes từ multiple angles (social, psychological, cultural), uses specific example (Vietnam)
💡 Key Language Features:
- Discourse markers: Well, On a fundamental level, Beyond, From a broader perspective
- Tentative language: I believe, I think, simply can’t (for emphasis)
- Abstract nouns: social bonding opportunities, psychological need, cultural identity, sense of continuity
Question 2: Do you think the way people celebrate events has changed compared to the past?
🎯 Phân tích câu hỏi:
- Dạng: Compare past and present
- Key words: changed, compared to the past
- Cách tiếp cận: Acknowledge changes, give specific examples, possibly analyze reasons for changes
📝 Sample Answer – Band 6-7:
“Yes, I think it has changed a lot. In the past, people celebrated at home with family and cooked traditional food. Now, many people go to restaurants or hotels for parties. Also, modern technology like social media has changed how people share their celebrations. They post photos and videos online instead of just keeping albums.”
Phân tích:
- Structure: Clear comparison giữa past và present với examples
- Vocabulary: Basic descriptive language
- Tại sao Band 6-7: Makes valid comparisons nhưng analysis is superficial
📝 Sample Answer – Band 8.5-9:
“Absolutely, and I’d say the changes have been quite dramatic, particularly in urban areas. Looking back a few decades, celebrations were generally more intimate affairs, typically confined to immediate family and taking place in domestic settings. The focus was very much on face-to-face interaction and traditional rituals that had been passed down through generations.
In contrast, contemporary celebrations have become significantly more elaborate and, I would argue, somewhat commercialized. There’s now an entire industry built around event planning, with people opting for professionally catered venues and hiring specialists for everything from decoration to entertainment. What strikes me as particularly noteworthy is how technology has fundamentally transformed not just how we organize events, but how we experience and share them. The ubiquity of smartphones means that events are now simultaneously lived and documented, with people constantly capturing moments for social media rather than simply being present in them.
However, I should mention that this isn’t universally negative. While some lament the loss of authenticity and the pressure to create Instagram-worthy moments, others appreciate how technology enables wider participation – for instance, live-streaming allows distant relatives to virtually attend family celebrations, bridging geographical gaps that would have been insurmountable in the past.
The underlying drivers of these changes are multifaceted – rising disposable incomes, urbanization, the influence of Western culture, and our increasingly digital lifestyle all play a role in reshaping how we celebrate.”
Phân tích:
- Structure: Sophisticated comparison (past → present → nuanced view → analysis of reasons)
- Vocabulary: Advanced expressions (intimate affairs, commercialized, ubiquity of smartphones, lament the loss, insurmountable)
- Grammar: Complex sentences với multiple clauses, perfect control of tenses when comparing
- Critical Thinking: Balanced perspective (acknowledges both positive và negative aspects), analyzes underlying causes
💡 Key Language Features:
- Comparative structures: more elaborate, significantly more, fundamentally transformed
- Hedging: I would argue, I’d say, somewhat
- Concession: However, While some…others

🎯 Phân tích câu hỏi:
- Dạng: Benefits/Advantages question
- Key words: companies, organizing events, employees
- Cách tiếp cận: List multiple benefits với explanations, có thể categorize (morale, productivity, retention)
📝 Sample Answer – Band 6-7:
“Company events are good for employees. They help workers feel happy and reduce stress. When employees attend these events, they can talk to colleagues they don’t usually work with. This improves teamwork. Also, events like team building activities make the workplace more friendly and comfortable.”
Phân tích:
- Structure: Lists benefits một cách straightforward
- Vocabulary: Simple, adequate (happy, reduce stress, improve teamwork)
- Tại sao Band 6-7: Covers basic points nhưng lacks depth in analysis
📝 Sample Answer – Band 8.5-9:
“From a strategic perspective, corporate events serve multiple crucial functions. First and foremost, they’re instrumental in fostering team cohesion and breaking down departmental silos that often impede effective collaboration. When employees from different divisions interact in informal settings, they’re more likely to develop cross-functional relationships that can prove invaluable in day-to-day operations.
Equally important is the impact on employee morale and retention. In today’s competitive job market, companies need to go beyond monetary compensation to attract and retain top talent. Well-organized events demonstrate that a company values its workforce, which can significantly boost loyalty and reduce turnover rates. Research has consistently shown that employees who feel genuinely appreciated are substantially more productive and engaged in their work.
Furthermore, these events can serve as powerful platforms for internal communication. They provide opportunities for leadership to articulate the company’s vision, celebrate achievements, and reinforce corporate culture in ways that formal meetings or email communications simply cannot replicate. There’s something about the shared experience of celebration that makes messages more memorable and emotionally resonant.
That being said, the effectiveness hinges on execution – poorly planned or overly corporate events can actually have the opposite effect, making employees feel that their time is being wasted. The key is striking the right balance between professional objectives and genuine enjoyment.”
Phân tích:
- Structure: Highly organized với clear categorization (team cohesion → morale → communication → caveat)
- Vocabulary: Business-specific và sophisticated (departmental silos, cross-functional relationships, turnover rates, emotionally resonant)
- Grammar: Complex sentences với embedded clauses, parallel structures
- Critical Thinking: Shows understanding of business context, cites research, acknowledges potential drawbacks
💡 Key Language Features:
- Discourse markers for listing: First and foremost, Equally important, Furthermore
- Emphasis: simply cannot replicate, substantially more productive
- Qualification: That being said, the effectiveness hinges on
Theme 3: Event Planning Challenges
Question 4: What are the biggest challenges in organizing large-scale events?
🎯 Phân tích câu hỏi:
- Dạng: Problems/Challenges question
- Key words: biggest challenges, large-scale events
- Cách tiếp cận: Identify main challenges với explanations, có thể prioritize theo importance
📝 Sample Answer – Band 6-7:
“There are many challenges when organizing big events. First, it’s expensive and you need a big budget. Second, it’s difficult to coordinate many people and make sure everything happens on time. Weather can also be a problem for outdoor events. Another challenge is managing unexpected issues that come up during the event.”
Phân tích:
- Structure: Simple list of challenges
- Vocabulary: Basic vocabulary (expensive, difficult, problem)
- Tại sao Band 6-7: Identifies relevant challenges nhưng lacks detailed analysis
📝 Sample Answer – Band 8.5-9:
“In my view, organizing large-scale events presents a complex web of challenges that require exceptional coordination skills and meticulous planning. Perhaps the most daunting aspect is logistics management – when you’re dealing with hundreds or thousands of attendees, even seemingly minor details like traffic flow, parking arrangements, or catering for diverse dietary requirements can become logistical nightmares if not properly addressed.
Another critical challenge lies in risk management and contingency planning. Large events are inherently vulnerable to unforeseen circumstances – inclement weather, vendor failures, technical malfunctions, or even security concerns. The organizers need to have robust backup plans for virtually every conceivable scenario, which requires not just planning but also significant financial buffers to absorb unexpected costs.
What’s often underestimated is the human element – managing stakeholder expectations when you have multiple parties involved, each with their own agenda and vision. Achieving consensus among sponsors, vendors, performers, and attendees can be tremendously challenging, especially when interests conflict. This requires exceptional diplomatic skills and the ability to negotiate compromises that satisfy all parties while staying true to the event’s core objectives.
Additionally, in our increasingly digital age, there’s the added pressure of managing the event’s online presence and mitigating potential PR crises. In the era of social media, any mishap can be instantly amplified and go viral, potentially damaging reputations that took years to build. This means organizers must be constantly vigilant and prepared to respond swiftly to any negative feedback or incidents.
The financial stakes also cannot be overlooked – large events typically involve substantial investments, and the pressure to deliver ROI (return on investment) or meet fundraising targets adds another layer of stress. Balancing quality with budget constraints while ensuring the event meets or exceeds expectations is a perpetual tightrope walk.”

Question 5: How important is it to consider cultural differences when organizing international events?
🎯 Phân tích câu hỏi:
- Dạng: Importance/Significance question
- Key words: cultural differences, international events
- Cách tiếp cận: Emphasize importance, give reasons với concrete examples, possibly discuss consequences of ignoring culture
📝 Sample Answer – Band 7-8:
“It’s very important to think about cultural differences for international events. Different cultures have different customs and traditions. For example, food choices are important because some religions don’t allow certain foods. Also, the timing of events matters – some cultures have important holidays that you should avoid. If you ignore these differences, people might feel uncomfortable or offended.”
Phân tích:
- Structure: States importance với examples
- Vocabulary: Adequate but could be more sophisticated
- Tại sao Band 7-8: Good awareness nhưng could develop ideas further
📝 Sample Answer – Band 8.5-9:
“I’d argue it’s absolutely critical – in fact, cultural sensitivity can make or break an international event. Failure to acknowledge cultural nuances can result in anything from minor awkwardness to serious diplomatic incidents that undermine the entire purpose of bringing people together.
Let me illustrate this with several dimensions. First, there are logistical considerations around religious observances and dietary restrictions. A simple oversight like scheduling an event during Ramadan without providing appropriate accommodations for Muslim attendees, or serving pork at an event with Jewish or Muslim participants, can be deeply offensive and alienate significant portions of your audience.
Beyond the practical aspects, there are deeper cultural protocols around communication styles, hierarchical structures, and social etiquette that vary dramatically across cultures. In some Asian cultures, for instance, direct confrontation or public criticism is considered highly inappropriate, whereas in Western contexts, frank debate might be actively encouraged. Misjudging these norms can lead to serious miscommunications and damage professional relationships.
What’s particularly fascinating is how concepts of time differ across cultures – what’s considered punctual in one culture might be unacceptably late in another. This extends to event pacing as well; some cultures appreciate structured, time-bound agendas, while others favor more flexible, relationship-building approaches.
The stakes are especially high in today’s interconnected business environment, where international events often serve strategic purposes – forging partnerships, expanding markets, or enhancing organizational reputation. Cultural missteps in such contexts don’t just create immediate embarrassment; they can have long-lasting repercussions for business relationships and brand perception in entire markets.
That’s why savvy event organizers increasingly employ cultural consultants or diverse planning committees to identify potential pitfalls and ensure the event resonates positively with all attendees, regardless of their cultural background.”

Question 6: Do you think virtual events will replace traditional in-person events in the future?
🎯 Phân tích câu hỏi:
- Dạng: Future prediction/Opinion question
- Key words: virtual events, replace, traditional, future
- Cách tiếp cận: Balanced view, acknowledge both advantages của virtual và irreplaceable aspects của in-person
📝 Sample Answer – Band 7-8:
“I don’t think virtual events will completely replace in-person events. While online events became popular during COVID-19 and offer convenience, people still value face-to-face interaction. Virtual events are good for business meetings or conferences where information sharing is the main goal. However, celebrations like weddings or parties need personal contact. I think in the future, we’ll have a mix of both types.”
Phân tích:
- Structure: Clear position với reasoning
- Vocabulary: Adequate but straightforward
- Tại sao Band 7-8: Balanced view nhưng could be more sophisticated in analysis
📝 Sample Answer – Band 8.5-9:
“This is a nuanced question, and I’d say the answer is both yes and no, depending on the nature and purpose of the event. Let me elaborate on this.
For certain categories of events – particularly professional conferences, training seminars, or informational webinars – virtual formats have proven remarkably effective, and in some ways superior to traditional alternatives. They’re cost-effective, eliminate geographical barriers, and offer unprecedented flexibility. The pandemic accelerated this digital transformation, and many organizations have realized that they can achieve their objectives without the logistical complexity and expense of physical gatherings. For such events, I believe virtual or hybrid formats will increasingly become the default option.
However, when it comes to events where human connection and emotional resonance are paramount – think weddings, milestone celebrations, or even team-building retreats – no amount of technological sophistication can replicate the experience of being physically present. There’s something fundamentally irreplaceable about shared physical space – the spontaneous interactions, the non-verbal communication, the collective energy that emerges when people gather in person. These intangible elements are what make such events meaningful and memorable.
What I envision for the future is not an either-or scenario but rather a coexistence model where different formats serve different needs. We’re already seeing the emergence of hybrid events that combine the accessibility of virtual participation with the richness of in-person experiences. This approach maximizes reach while preserving the core value of face-to-face interaction for those who can attend physically.
Another factor to consider is evolving technology – as virtual and augmented reality become more sophisticated and accessible, they might bridge the gap between online and offline experiences more effectively. Imagine attending a virtual wedding where you can interact with holographic representations of other guests in a three-dimensional space – that could significantly enhance the virtual experience.
Ultimately, I believe the key determinant will be the purpose of the gathering. Events focused on information exchange and professional networking will likely transition predominantly to virtual or hybrid formats, while those centered on celebration, cultural traditions, or deep relationship-building will retain their physical dimension. The future is not replacement but rather thoughtful selection of the most appropriate format for each specific context.”
Phân tích:
- Structure: Sophisticated argument với clear segmentation (professional events → celebratory events → future vision → technology factor → conclusion)
- Vocabulary: Precise và varied (nuanced question, unprecedented flexibility, intangible elements, coexistence model)
- Grammar: Complex structures used flexibly and accurately throughout
- Critical Thinking: Multi-faceted analysis, considers different event types, acknowledges technology evolution, provides balanced conclusion
💡 Key Language Features:
- Hedging and precision: This is a nuanced question, I’d say, I envision
- Contrasting: However, while, rather than
- Future speculation: What I envision, Imagine, will likely

Chiến Lược Tổng Thể Để Đạt Band 8+
Preparation Strategy (Chiến lược chuẩn bị)
1. Build Your Story Bank (Xây dựng kho câu chuyện)
Thay vì học thuộc template, hãy chuẩn bị 3-4 câu chuyện thực tế về events bạn đã tham gia hoặc tổ chức. Mỗi story nên có:
- Clear context (event type, time, place)
- Your specific role và responsibilities
- Challenges you faced và how you overcame them
- Describe a time you helped organize an event
- Describe a challenging experience
- Describe a time you worked in a team
- Describe something you did that made you proud
2. Master Topic-Specific Vocabulary
Học từ vựng theo themes thay vì học đơn lẻ:
- Planning phase: coordinate, liaise with, secure, book, arrange
- Challenges: juggle tasks, pull out, go awry, contingency plan
- Success indicators: turnout, resonate with, exceed expectations, come together
- Reflection: rewarding, fulfilling, eye-opening, taught me
3. Practice Extending Answers
Thực hành IDEA method:
- Idea: Main point
- Detail: Specific information
- Example: Concrete instance
- Assessment: Your opinion/feeling
Ví dụ:
- I: “I find organizing events quite rewarding.”
- D: “It involves coordinating multiple elements simultaneously.”
- E: “For instance, at the charity event I organized, I had to manage vendors, volunteers, and donors.”
- A: “This taught me invaluable project management skills.”
During The Test Strategy
Part 1 Tips:
- What (event type)
- When/Where
- Your role (3-4 key responsibilities)
- Feelings (2-3 keywords)
Part 3 Tips:
- Think before speaking (1-2 giây pause is acceptable)
- Structure answer: Direct response → Reason 1 + example → Reason 2 + example → Conclusion/Nuance
- Show multiple perspectives: “On one hand… On the other hand…”
- Use tentative language: “I tend to think…”, “From what I’ve observed…”
- Admit if uncertain: “I’m not entirely sure, but I would imagine…”
- Develop each answer to 4-6 câu tối thiểu
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Lỗi về Content:
- ❌ Memorizing scripts (nghe như robot)
- ❌ Fabricating unrealistic stories (quá phóng đại)
- ❌ Going off-topic (trả lời không đúng trọng tâm)
- ❌ Being too vague (thiếu details cụ thể)
Lỗi về Language:
- ❌ Overusing advanced words incorrectly
- ❌ Repeating the same vocabulary
- ❌ Speaking too fast or too slow
- ❌ Using only simple sentences
Lỗi về Delivery:
- ❌ Not making eye contact
- ❌ Speaking in monotone
- ❌ Excessive hesitation với “um”, “uh”
- ❌ Correcting yourself too much
Final Tips From An Examiner
What Examiners Really Want:
- Natural communication – Speak like you’re having a conversation, not giving a speech
- Clear ideas – They want to understand your thoughts easily
- Personal perspective – Your unique opinions và experiences matter
- Language range – Show variety, but appropriately
- Confidence – Mistakes are okay if you keep going confidently
The 3 Cs of High-Band Speaking:
- Clarity: Your message is easy to understand
- Complexity: Your language shows sophistication (but naturally)
- Coherence: Your ideas flow logically
Remember:
- Band 8+ is about being a confident, articulate communicator, not a walking dictionary
- Examiners are trained to distinguish between natural speech và memorized responses
- Your story doesn’t need to be extraordinary – everyday experiences told well score higher than incredible stories told poorly
- Practice doesn’t make perfect; practice makes natural
Mindset Before The Test:
- You’re having an interesting conversation with a stranger about events
- The examiner wants you to succeed
- Small mistakes won’t hurt your score if overall performance is strong
- Be yourself – authenticity scores higher than perfection
Chúc bạn tự tin và thành công với IELTS Speaking test! Remember, the goal isn’t just to pass an exam, but to demonstrate your real ability to communicate effectively in English.
